There's only so many jumps to be made (but a well-connected deity like Ernalda certainly has quite a few!)

Take for example Seven Mothers instead. Lots and lots of allied cults.

(I do not see that her Ernaldan rune-pool is affected in any way; she's initiated into both cults)

Here is a problem I see in this situation; the person keeps jumping from allied cult to allied cult and in each case can get their CHA worth of Rune Points.

  3. So let's say and initiate of  Ernalda wants to "take up the ax" and join Babeester Gor. What happens to her Ernalda Rune Pool? Is this the same for an initiate of Seven Mother who may decide at various times to join a particular one of the seven mothers?

Nope.  Riverfork Horse, which suggests a cavalry regiment from Holay or Aggar.

Those barbarians should be grateful for the honor given them. Their names will live forever!!! (or until a Humakti cast a Turn Undead)

it's the more "primitive" societies that are more inclined to have shamans.

I think it is because of the assumption that they are more attuned to nature, Afterall they would have to be to survive as there are fewer reserves in basic necessities. The chain of thought that one needs to be more like the element that being earth, air or more like the animal to survive like them. The focus is not on the deeds, but the state.

The God Learners would not have wasted time researching a topic that wasn't meaningful to them in some quite fungible way. Instead, they put in resources and risked their own lives to usurp and enter these deities rites and myths in order to be able to understand, exploit and manipulate them.

I am not sure about that since it relies heavily on what is meaningful. I would say they would have collected everything and attempted to catalogue and make sense of it later. To me issue became then those who did the interpretation were not careful enough or did not understand the risks while concentrating heavily on the rewards.

Yes, it seems strange to me that you have rules (in the rules book) to manage shamans but not a few rules to manage heroquest.

Because it's easier to standardize shamans than very subjective HeroQuests.

Gods only know we tried and let's just say it did not work out exactly right.

If anyone is super-proficient at RQ6 or QW stats this is the one skill-set none of us have. I can learn it for sure, but with the massive number of days of editing ahead the help would be appreciated. I remember back in the day creating stats in the systems I knew was as easy as eating a piece of toast 🙂

Leon Kirshtein (@Godlearner) does the stats for our Holiday Dorastor series and does a really good job.

Guilty as charged. Drop me a line of what you need.

This means either seasonally or if there is a convenient priest able to conduct the ceremony on hand

If you are temple guard these will happen often enough. Yes, to be useful it needs extension, but the spell can affect multiple people so each time a different person would cast it.

Obviously you have a more liberal interpretation. YMMV and all that.

Not obviously, I am just reading it as written. They did not specify threat of physical violence, it say harm. If you steal from me, that harms me, if you wish to malign me, that harms me as well, even if you want to tell the truth about my misdeeds, that will also bring me harm.

Not automatically. If you want to sneak to enter discreetly in the temple, you are not an enemy, because you want no harm. The matter would of course be different if you want to kill said guard.

Harm does not imply kill; theft would qualify as well. But you are right in that it would depend as to why they are trying to sneak in.

Yeah, it's been my experience that PC's are VERY loath to spend their Rune Points, especially on information spells. They'd MUCH rather keep them hoarded for True Weapon, Shield, and Heal Wounds spells.

Sure, but that does not hold for NPC. Anyone on guard duty is likely to have one of these up. Good luck to PCs trying to sneak up on that.

Second thing is that you have to discern the intent of the bad guys.

No, not exactly. You do not need to see them or discern their intent. If they mean you harm, it detects them. Of course, if they do not know you are there they could not possibly mean to harm you, even if it the vilest of Broo.

    Detect Enemies
    1 Point
    Ranged, Focused, Instant
This spell gives the approximate direction and distance from the caster of any being intending to harm them, or it detects and locates a specific individual on whom the caster concentrates. The caster of the spell does not have to overcome the POW of potential targets to find them. The sensing effect is stopped by 1 or more meters of a dense substance such as stone, metal, or earth.

Now Find Enemies is a much more interesting spell especially when it is extended. 😁

There are darned few ways for anybody to identify spells to target.  (in RQG)

We have always allowed people to roughly identify the spell types by allowing targeting of "spells that protect against damage" or "spells that enhance strength", etc.

Does a Shield protect your clothing from Ignite? Does it protect your armor from Vomit Acid?

I would say that Shield would not protect against an Ignite on your clothing but would if it was targeted on your hair or fur.

Vomit Acid is different story. The Countermagic part of Shield would not protect, but the Protection part would reduce the damage, before the it is applied to armor (destroying it in the process) and then to the person.

And the magic is on the person, and part of that person.

I would disagree. What if the spell is cast by another person? What if that other person is dead and the spell is still around. Unless the spell is active, that link is gone as soon as the spell is cast.
