  1. Finally in my very very long march to the end of the wondeful Guide of Glorantha I reached the God Learners Maps. Having Just purchased the Mythology book I have read it in parallel with the Mythic Map Section of the Mythology book.
The two sections are similar but more different than I would have expected. In short the Mythology book has less infos about the est, the south and the west and some more infos about the north. Very few Thinobutu, almost no Loper People, no six original people of Danmalastan, storm ages became lesser darkness, some events changed era.
Why? Is the guide out of official canon or they will be explored further in the future in other supplements?
    Thanks.

I haven't read the listed part of the Starter Set yet, so make of this what you will.

Under normal combat conditions, you are only really able to parry a rider charging you (I'm assuming this as the weapon mentioned is a lance) if you are skirmishing. If you are in a shield wall bracing for the attack, your shield is generally braced tightly, and locked with the shield of the person next to you if possible, in order to provide as much a solid barrier as possible in order to deter the horse from proceeding.

Thus, in RQ terms, you would cover parts of your body with the shield, similar to protecting against missiles, leaving others open (known as Passive Blocking in RQ6/Mythras).

But in the solo adventure you are alone confronting a charging rider, not in tight formation.

  3. I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

    On point 112:

"Decide which location shield is protecting. Once you’ve done so, roll the lance attack (70%), and your own parry or dodge.

Determine hit location, then apply damage if the attacker
overwhelms the combined value of any shield or armor."

I thought shields absorbed the damage on selected hit locations only with missile weapons where you can't parry.

Does this happens on melee combat too where you can parry? And in this last case it does absorbs damage on the selected hit locations even if you fail the parryng roll as it seems from soloquest?

    Thanks.

  4. I have some questions regarding NPC in Starter Set book 2:

    • Orngerin Holdfast has Spirit Rune at 60%. In RQG I haven't found the possibility to have spirit rune, perhaps I have missed something?
    • Erryn Mercy Is a chalana Arroy Priestess an has access to Sorcery spells, but Chalana Arroy does not give access to sorcery ans she does not seems coming from the west or having a Lunar past. How can she access sorcery?

    Thanks.

That would be fantastic, if true!!!

But it sounds like a (false) rumor, or just wishful thinking...
Chaosium has been promo'ing the heck out of the new Starter Set box, and haven't (that I've seen) mentioned anything VTT...

It is a quote from Rick Meints, I think he is an important person here.

  6. In particular playing KoDP you have a very strong Elmal Cult, then reading the new books you see that Elmal is, at best, of irrelevant importance, if ever existed as a standalone God.

Is this only due to the different time perod or KoDB is strongly based on "now non canon" sources? Are there other big differencies?

    Thanks

  7. Reading various sources I tought ducks were brave amd successfull respected warriors, then I found in RQ:G Bestiary:

    "Most ducks have a special
Passion of Cowardly 60%, which acts in a similar fashion
to Honor but enforces craven behavior."

How this is possible? Are ducks cowards or fierce warriors?

    Thanks

  8. After one and a half years of study I'm starting my RQ:G campaign. I was thinking to create the PC with the players ... but then I discovered RQ Starter Set is coming out.

I think it will be better to use one of the pregenerated characters, to avoid to overwhelm the players with the complexity of the (beautiful) character creation process.

When will it be published approximately? Will it have a pdf version too?

    Thanks.

Some thoughts on the presence of the Elmal as opposed to Yelmalio cult of the Little Sun that are intended to do little harm to canon- the Elmal cult variant is focused more on horses, (and its canonical presence is at Runegate, home of clans that claim Hyaloring descent) and in the absence of expensive private/public schools (to be trans-atlantic) the most likely locations are good horse country, which I don't think the Lismelder have much of in their wet lowlands.

I often asked myself a thing that like most other in Gloranta, is for me very fascinating and confusing.
What is the connection (that seems very "dynamic" depending the time) betweek the poor Elmal loyal thane horse's and Yelmalio.
Now they seem to be the same thing and the cult of Elmal has almost disappeared as "Elmal" and survivies only under Yelmalio. But I am among these who discovered Glorantha through KoDP, and betweeen early sartarites it appeared to be an important deity. I wondered very much to discovered it was wiped away.
Now I see that the KoDP repreentation is considered a little "out of canon" ... where is the truth? (I understand that is a totally absurd question ... )

    Thanks

There are a number of differences - compare Lhankor Mhy’s runes, for instance, or the dramatically different maps of Clearwine.

I think we should talk about four different Glorantha dev tracks, or forks - Guide, RQG, HQG, 13AiG. These are not 100% compatible with each other even on a pure non-rule level (maybe HQG and Guide?). You really can tell that you’re in RQG-Glorantha just from seeing Lhankor Mhy’s Stasis rune - you would not in any of the others.

This will save you a number of headaches.

Yes, now that I looked to the Guide I have seen there are a lot of deities using runes non existing in RQG ...

My approach is, that Glorantha is always the same, so far the given example the trade rune does exist. Runequest:Roleplaying in Glorantha and Heroquest Glorantha are just different approaches to explore this world using a game, i.e. they are a set of gaming rules. The fact, that the trade rune is not used in RQG, does not mean, that the rune does not exist, it's just not used in the rule set, because it does not have any relevance for this rule set.

And: the trade rune is just a composition of Harmony and Movement (which is even explained in the HQG rules). So from the game world perspective, there is no difference.

The fact is that runes does not seem a game mechanics element but an essential Glorantha world element, like to say that Orlanth exists only in RQG and not in HQG.

  12. One is trade, movement, trade, the other is harmony, movement.

And trade rune is missing from RQG, as some other do.

And perhaps there are more "glorantha" differences between the two systems, apart the game system.

And this make me ask another question: are the Glorantha depicted by RQG and the Glorantha depicted by HQG really the same?

    Thanks

We use Roll20 for maps when a battle is possible or expected.  For example, go into Snakepipe Hollow, put the map on Roll20 and follow along.  We also use it, sometimes, to roll dice - it has some nice support for that.  We do not use it for character sheets or anything.

We use Zoom for the general conversation, possibly briefly screen share a map or picture.

We use Discord as the overall "chat" (or the "help, my computer crashed, I'll be back...") and for a lot of the dice rolling when battle is not happening.  e.g. social interactions, most roleplaying, etc...

    I forgot quoting this ...

Why Discord and not Zoom to chat (or vice versa) ? Discord to write and zoom to talk?

    Thanks.

  14. I'd like to use some virtual tabletop to starting play RQ:G.

What do you use? RollD20? Are there around some resources? I have seen there is a very good character set for RQ:G but I can't find it.

Sorry but I'm newbie to RollD20 (and to RQ:G too, being expert on Glorantha will be much more difficult I thnk)

    Thank you very much.
