  1. Yes, the PDFs are very helpful! I picked mine up from DTRPG. They helped confirm a couple of printings for which I didn't have records.
  2. Brand new post! Chaosium's All The Worlds’ Monsters (1977-81) predates the AD&D Monster Manual by a few months. These compendiums were meant for any RPG system, and Runequest conversion notes appeared later. The ATWM books went through some printing changes over the years. Details and pics over at my old school RPG photoblog. Enjoy! -Wayne All The Worlds’ Monsters (Chaosium, 1977-81): Printings Reference
  3. A Blast from the BRP Past... Today at my old school gameblog, we examine the ELFQUEST RPG, one of Chaosium's classic 80s box sets. Lots of photos, with commentary and printing notes. Enjoy! -Wayne ELFQUEST Roleplaying Game (1984) Box Set: Old School RPG adaptation of the Indie Comic Series
  4. Likewise, I'd love to play through Horror on the Orient Express. Been trying to persuade our group's GM to run Call of Cthulhu. Can you elaborate on "first edition was a little uneven in parts"? I'm not well versed in CoC.
  5. Horror on the Orient Express (1991) is a very busy set. This epic, continent-spanning campaign box for Call of Cthulhu RPG is jam-packed with player handouts. Over the years, parts get lost, making for headaches in the collector market. I deep-dive into a complete set, with pics of everything at my photoblog. Enjoy! -Wayne Horror on the Orient Express (1991): A Collector’s Guide to the epic Call of Cthulhu campaign set
  6. Today I delve into Superworld in my explainer post at my photoblog. I didn't know about the Wild Cards/George R.R. Martin connection until I was reading background on the game for my post. Very cool. Love the option of super hero rules in the BRP system. Enjoy! -Wayne SUPERWORLD (1983): Chaosium’s BRP rules Super Hero RPG that inspired Wild Cards
  7. I forgot about Knights of Camelot! Yeah there were several of these Arthurian games back in the day. Interesting.
  8. King Arthur's Knights is so old school it was released back when Chaosium was "The Chaosium". A fun little boardgame in Arthurian England, fighting opponents and finding romance. Another of those early games that's a short step from being an RPG. Meints' Out of the Suitcase blog post on KAK was a very helpful primary source. The full shoot at my photoblog: King Arthur’s Knights (1978): Early Chaosium Adventure Game forerunner to Pendragon RPG
  9. Ever wanted to BE the Ghostbusters? This classic RPG was a unique collaboration by Chaosium and West End Games, and the rules were later adapted into the legendary Star Wars roleplaying game. I delve into the box sets over at my photoblog. Enjoy! -Wayne GHOSTBUSTERS RPG (1986): The Origin of the D6 System (plus Card Reference and a look inside the GBI box)
  10. With Pavis and Big Rubble sets passing through the shop, I made a post today introducing these classic Runequest boxes to a wider D&D audience. They really are a pair, and I love that Chaosium graphically matched the sets. More photos over at my blog post. -Wayne PAVIS & BIG RUBBLE (1983): Basecamp and Vast City Ruins for Runequest RPG
  11. Wonderful article. Added a link to your page from my post.
  12. Thanks for the edition info! Didn't know about the hardcover.
  13. Following up on my earlier Runequest German edition post, today I've got the French edition of the RQ RPG. And she is a beauty. -Wayne Full post at my photoblog: RUNEQUEST: French language edition (late 80s)
  14. Fully-titled RuneQuest Collector’s Edition: Das Fantasy-Rollenspiel, I had a customer ask about the cover artist of this book. The photos that resulted, I just posted to my game blog. It's a German language edition of RQ3 (I believe), the Avalon Hill version. Full post: RUNEQUEST: German language edition (1991)
  15. Over at my blog, I've added a follow-up to my post on the classic Chaosium Ringworld RPG. The original RW set was packed, so full that material had to be removed for space reasons. And so the Ringworld Companion (1984) was published separately with all the missing information. Together, they represent one of the largest-scale RPG settings ever. Lots of art and data that would appeal to fans of the original scifi fiction series by Larry Niven. -Wayne
  16. Yes good point. I noted the measurements as 15½” x 23¼” (UK), vs. 20″ x 30″ (US), and - like the Game Workshop book - the GW maps is of a glossier paper stock.
  17. I recently edited a blog post from 2016 that I think would be of interest to readers here. I had both US and UK editions of Griffin Mountain in the shop at the time, so I took some side-by-side pics. They are mostly the same, but one edition is definitely better from a longevity standpoint. -Wayne Full post: Griffin Mountain (Runequest, 1981): US and UK editions
  18. Avalon Hill is a great edition too. I believe it has the same map as Elric 2e.
  19. One of those rare instances where I have multiple editions passing through the shop, so I took some side-by-side pics of the old school ELRIC Game, 1977 and 1981 editions. Made for some striking photos. -Wayne Full Post: Elric Board Game 1st & 2nd editions side-by-side (Chaosium: 1977 / 1981)
  20. Classic Runequest RPG books (ca 1980-3) that hit the shelves today! Thought y'all would enjoy some old school cover art. Also updated most of the photos over at my RQ RPG Reference site page this morning.
  21. I was curious how extensive were the changes RQ1 --> RQ2, and they seem substantial. I thought the update might just be shine andpolish.
  22. I just wanted to say I'm grateful for this thread. RQ1 was a bit of a mystery to me, and this helped answer some questions.
  23. I appreciate the behind-the-scenes info here and at the blog, Rick. Thank you.
  24. In response to an email question, I cropped some dice pics out of Call of Cthulhu set reference shots I had saved, post to my Game Gallery blog for posterity. I reckon it might be of interest for folks here. -Wayne DICE from classic Call of Cthulhu box sets: Some reference pics (1981-5)
