  1. This is one reason I like Mythras. There's just over 20 standard skills, and the rest are professional skills (available by culture and career during chargen, or special training later), of which a starting character might only have a half dozen tops. Mythras also keeps things under control by distinguishing between general skills and specialized skills. Having said that, I wouldn't want to simplify the skill list much more. Since most BRP-family games don't have advantages & disadvantages, skills really help differentiate characters from one another.
  2. And to me. It's fine if someone doesn't like it, but one ought not pretend one's subjective preferences are objective flaws by using fancy philosophical terms such as "counter-intuitive" ...
  3. On a related note, in my own little BRP hack: The Rule of One. If the die representing the ones digit comes up a 1, that is a special result. If the roll succeeded, it is a special success, henceforth known as a critical. If the roll failed, it is a special failure, henceforth known as a fumble. A critical is a better result than a success, which is better than a failure, which is better than a fumble, or: CRITICAL > SUCCESS > FAILURE > FUMBLE
  4. Honestly, I just want errata, as per below, and then a hardcover POD option. That's it.
  5. It sounds like AEther: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/56984/AEther-Core-Book
  6. Is that right? It thought the core book gave an example of hiding a scroll in a library or some such thing.
  7. That's a good sign! I'll keep an eye out, and perhaps this thread can serve as a place to report them. Thanks!
  8. Odd Soot is just plain neat ... Any errata I should be aware of? I've looked around, and if there's a document or a thread, I've missed it. Thanks!
  9. Hey, yo. I dig Mythras' approach to skills, but I'm also wondering about the conceal skill. I get what it's for in general, but it seems awfully specialized to devote a whole skill to. On the other hand, maybe it has far more applications than I'm thinking of. So, whaddya got? I'll start with one: Hiding a car off-road by covering it with branches ... Your turn!
  10. Yah, the Mythras Gateway license - not OGL, but it looks pretty straightforward: http://thedesignmechanism.com/resources/Mythras Gateway License Public.pdf
  11. Sorry to hear that; I think BRPE would have been a nice little product. Still, as long as I have my BGB, I'm happy.
  12. Me again; it's been a year and a half. Anyone find anything else?
  13. I think I recall someone saying that Cthulhu By Gaslight had some advantage / disadvantage type traits, but don't quote me on that. Someone else might be able to confirm or deny. The Big Gold Book has powers that could cover supernatural / superpowered merits, and there some character failings in the superpower section that you could mine for disadvantages. You could also look to the wound tables for material that could mimic physical handicap disadvantages. In general, I think fans of BRP aren't usually too into the whole advantage / disadvantage thing, so there's just not a ton t
  14. Perhaps related to / inspired by: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/WOTAN
  15. Pg. 39: Did you mean "Aristoteles" rather than the more common "Aristotle"? I know it's technically correct, but it might cause some confusion. Pg. 168: "Psychic" is used instead of "Psionic" as per page 208. Also in the powers list, the third term "psi" is used. Obviously, all the same thing, but it might be better to avoid any potential confusion.
  16. I agree completely. I have plenty of other RPG materials to keep me occupied in the meantime!
  17. That's a good question. I thought I heard that the BGB would be available as POD at some point. It would be lovely if there were some corrections added (they took care of quite a few between the softcover and hardcover, IIRC), but I won't get my hopes up - I'm sure they have plenty of more important projects to worry about right now.
  18. Howdy. It's me, doing my yearly check-in to see if anyone has caught any new errata from the hardcover BGB. Anything new to add to the list in post #7?
  19. Good catch, thanks. I'll add the inconsistency to the list, but you're correct that we'd need a ruling to say which is the errata ...
  20. It's been a while. Anything new for the list? Also, is there any chance in hell that these corrections could be incorporated before the BRP BGB goes to Lulu for POD?
  21. Very cool, thanks! For a lo-tech version of planet and society random generators, check out Sine Nomine Publishing's Stars Without Number - the core rule book of which is free to download!
