But the "Head of Vecna" was unloaded. π
-
IIRC, the Bestiary was (at least at one point) going to have support for Telmori PC's; I'm away from where I have that PDF, so I can't check to see if it does or not. As Jeorg notes, the "Chaos Taint" might paint them up with great big targets for big parts of the setting; Storm Bulls, in particular, with their "Sense Chaos," might be all kinds of problematic; and even some of the PC's may have good reason to hate werewolves. N.B. there ARE other shapeshifter types (non-chaotic) that might be of interest? Alynx/shadowcat (via Yinkin) & bear (via Odayla), iirc. I believe the Basmoli of Prax are separated from their Lion-God (and have thus lost shape-shifting in canon (?)) ... Have the Hsunchen tribes have been detailed yet in RQG ... ? There ARE necromancers, of various sorts. Many are Chaotic: the mixing of the living and the dead is one of the great horrors of Chaos. Again, this sort of Chaos is liable to cause PC-vs-PC fighting, and get all sorts of hostile attention from Chaos-Foes. Even non-Chaotic necromancy, however, gets a special hate-on from Humakt, whose followers are among the most-feared warriors of Glorantha. Humakt is a main Death-god; not evil but stern and rather absolute in his "thou shalt not..." edicts regarding any sort of undeath; dead means DEAD says Humakt, and enforces with extreme prejudice. Of course, all these conflicts have their upside for the GM -- ready-made foes & stories! I note a certain risky irony in the scribe-type who uses lots of fire magic. I imagine s/he isn't popular in libraries... The Lightbringer (Orlanth/Sartar) god Lhankor Mhy would be a likely choice. The corresponding Lunar god is Irrippi Ontor. Gloranthan magic comes in 3 main varieties - common Battle Magic, divine Rune Magic, & knowledge-based Sorcery. A "pyromancer" would likely either use Sorcery or Sky/Fire Rune spells (I mean, the Sorceror would likely use the Fire/Sky rune, too; but not via a god). But the fire/sky element leads to another option: the Yelm/Elmal (Sun-God) cults, and the ancient Solar-centric Dara Happan culture (now under Lunar sway, but still with lots of Solar influences). Dara Happans have a HUGE written tradition, so scribes are a Big Thing there. There is another notion worth considering -- the Shaman. A keeper of lore&tradition (who could arguably have a "chronicler" bent) and intercessor with the spirit-world; they have lots of sprits & spirit-magic. If s/he binds a lot of fire-spirits (e.g. to keep them from doing damage), he'll have a lot of fire magic available. Over in Prax, there are lots of Shamans, and Oakfed the god of wildfires is hard to control (and fires are a huge risk) so a "firefighter-shaman" might come from there... Edit - thoroughly ninja'ed by other/faster forum-posters!

Nevertheless... those fulfillment-centers had better get cracking, lest we cry havoc, and let slip the whingeing fanboiz! π

Classic "ygmv" territory. It certainly holds up as well as other mostly-linguistic arguments I've seen embraced by the Grognardia. Decide the truth-vs-coincidence factor as seems most-fun to you; or ... hint at it, let the players investigate or not, and let player action/interest determine what is "true." π
-
It's not so much "wacky" as different; alien. Dragonewts can seem "wacky" or "brave" or "cowardly" without actually BEING any of those things -- their decision-making process, and the criteria upon which they decide how to act, are outside human ken. There is a hint of Buddhism there, in the ideas of "right action" and "wrong action" and the (hopefully advancing) cycles, etc. I see where you get the "Asian Martial Arts" vibe from! Add in some incomprehensible motivations and methods... and ROCK that scaly mofo!

This is IMHO one of the great flaws in Glorantha as a setting: Player cames up with a great idea, but it's based on a non-Gloranthan POV, so experts say "no." This is valid -- the experts are right -- but it's VERY discouraging for a player! How close can we get to the PC-concept, while being not-absolutely-outside-any-chance-of-being-canon?

Please, please PLEASE @Jason Durall-- -- please "accidentally" leave this one in the final print-ready file !!! π

I don't believe in any of that stuff. Nevertheless, I do not absolutely deny that it might exist. π€‘

That may just be enough of a collectible item that you can realize the cost of "a full set of polyhedra dice" from e-bay or some such... You may find info via NobleKnight ot WaynesBooks or the like; or acaeum.com ...

The have announced UK warehouse has some. Not sure why you aren't getting sourced from there automagically... Sounds like a job for customerservice@chaosium.com !

Depending on server-configuration, a few thousand e-mails might take anywhere from a few minutes to most of a day; the coupon's ARE flowing, though! (seems to be sent out via MailChimp, which I believe to be pretty robust and high-performance; but I've had my ISP-side mailserver repeatedly hammer a customer-side mailserver to a screeching overloaded halt; some servers just aren't very fast...) Check spamfolders, verify you're checking the "right" (same as rdered the PDF) e-addy, etc. If you still don't have your coupon, DO contact Chaosium!

If the OP were on break, away from his desk (in a break-room, outside to enjoy a bit of fresh air, etc) and reading it on his own device... I would find that really serious overreach by the employer. Break is supposed to be personal time, read what you want, etc. Granted: if he were at his workspace, the appearance of being "at work" (while viewing personal content) might muddy the issue, or worse.
-
Can you expand upon this just a bit, please? If everyone was clear that some of the content was NSFW, what "response" was "particularly strong" in the women you consulted ... ? I ask because my gaming group is about 2/3 women. I have the PDF and am about to order the rulebook (presuming I get the Discount Coupon); nobody else has even the PDF (afaik). But maybe I should alter my "pitch" to the group... edit: also, how many M vs F persons did you ask; and were some/many/none/etc gamers?

Nevermind the barding, you fool! You just mentioned stirrups in a post about Glorantha! RUN FOR THE HILLS!
-
That line? The one between "genius" and "madness"? You just erased it, my friend. Well done.

q.v. @SDLeary's "independently wealthy" and "Most simply do not have the resources to be able to do that." π₯ If I had to guess, I'd Guess @Mechashef is a gov't employee, or works for an employer who is mostly/entirely a gov't contractor.

Or when you need to discharge your firearm 1-handed ... because your other hand is a chainsaw... π€‘

Behind the times, old man. Get yourself a Taurus Judge or an S&W Governor, and a pouch full of speedloaders.

Alas; you may be right. There is this terrible legislative/bureaucratic overreaction... macho assholes hang Playboy centerfolds on the wall, "accidentally" expose their female coworkers to internet porn... and the reaction ends up with RQG (or other reasonable content) being evaluated/banned as pornography. I'd think some freedom-of-speech advocates (in the States, I'd consider the ACLU/etc; dunno the Aussie flavor of that, if any) might want to look at this, because the "little guy" (as you note) can't afford to. We need to get away from the lowest / most-restrictive / least-tolerant common denominator being able to dictate to everyone (without allowing the macho assholes to harass women). Particularly worrisome (to me) is the OP's report that the PDF was on his OWN computer, and in an out-of-the-way (not obtrusively visible) place... and that didn't matter!?!!? Invasion of privacy?
-
I don't wish to rock the OP's boat, but frankly some of this "criticism" is far beyond "reasonable." The standards by which these people are judging NEED to be pushed-back-on! πΏ
-
No no, you've misunderstood! The Lunar Coders each have a PC.
-
Fair enough. Apologies for misunderstanding. I thought it seemed kinda strawman to equate Handmaid's Tale with Orlanth myths; hence the sigh.
-
No. At least, I hope we aren't! An "impact" on violence forces nobody's hand. Not mine, not yours, not Stephen Paddock's. But your allegation that "telling misogynistic stories teaches us about misogynyο»Ώ" (in response to @Bohemond saying that "telling misogynistic stories encourages misogyny") is so overly-simplified as to be... not wrong, precisely... but surely not right. What -- in your opinion -- is the difference between "facts" and "factoids"? Ya got any credible ones for me? NIH (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2704015/) in 2009 -- APA (http://psycnet.apa.org/buy/2014-41977-001) in 2014 -- And the highest Impact Factor article I found via Google Scholar (http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0146167213520459) a meta-study from 2014 -- Look... I enjoy a rousing action-adventure story with tons of violence. I've gone to "dark places" in PC's that I have played, games that I have GM'ed. But the facts are clear; and they show that media does impact & influence behavior (in lieu of studies to the contrary, I will presume RPG's count). You're welcome to your own opinion, of course. But the data doesn't seem to support (what seems to be) your opinion.

Some therapists do use roleplaying as a therapeutic technique, I understand. Somehow I doubt it's from a RPG exactly... π *I* sure don't want to "therapize" at MY gaming-table! But I see it reliably reported that PTSD/abuse/survivorship of various traumas/etc CAN and DOES come up (IRL, in the players not the characters) at the gaming-table.
-
<sigh> Are the protagonists misogynists? Are we "supposed" to like the abusers? Our PC's -- with whom we are "supposed" to identify insofar as we role-play them -- are "supposed" to like Orlanth. FWIW (and admittedly tangential to this point) season 2 is reportedly triggering anxiety attacks in some viewers.
