  1. Back onto the Furthest book: does it have any other artworks (besides maps) going onto (or already on) Redbubble?
  2. One must -- quite Obviously, my friend -- write in an archaic fashion, with Randomly Capitalized letters, such that the Modern Reader is utterly Befuddled, and quite entirely Forgets to Post their so-called Corrections.
  3. Thank you, Jason... this answers exactly the question I was about to pose (and confirms the rhetorical "it's probably a PITA to reconcile..." I was gonna include).

    Durulz & Death

So, we know the Durulz are inherently "death-y" and show up with more Humakti than one would expect from your random bunch of Donald & Howard wannabe's. What about some other "Death-y" cults? Lookin atchu, Magasta, with your alongside your ... But also, Urox got that + thang goin' on. And of course, everyone knows the Ducks are only "small" because so much of their mass is stuck in the chip on their shoulder... so the whole vengeance-y aspects of Babeester Gor should appeal to (at least some) Durulz. Now, obviously Humakt "owns" ... in some ways Humake is ... so I see him being the most-apt for the drake schtick. But what of those other gods? Aren't they (at least some of them) also likely to pick up a few more Ducks than one would expect, simply because of the Durulz' runic affinity?
  5. Also: I have long been struck by similarities between the "timeless" eternal Now of Glorantha's "God Time" with (what I understand of) the Australian "Dreamtime."
  6. Given that Runemagic is heroforming your god... and that cattle-raiding is a ubiquitous pastime of most Sartarites... Orlanth is always stealing his own cattle.
  7. I haven't picked up QUASAR yet; it's on my "to-buy" list, but I'm unclear on this point: if you're still basically using BRP core(?), there's AFAIK absolutely no reason you couldn't submit your next(ish) publication to the contest.

    map source

It seems very possible that -- way back when, at a point now lost to memory or documentation -- somebody (Greg, and/or an early mapmaker) did in fact take some degree of inspo from Maiden Castle -- or Jerusalem! -- which was then informative of Jeff's stuff that in turn informed Jaja's. Or, y'know, could just be "convergent evolution:" most any hillfort built on a long ridge (rather than a round-ish hill) is liable to be relatively-similar, such as (to pick a random example) Jerusalem & Dorset's Maiden Castle...
  9. That FAQ is a nice supplement to the original announcement, and very useful. TYVM!
  10. n.b. that thread is periodically swept by Chaosium & addressed en masse, rather than each being addressed as it's posted here. I'd expect most of the recent items to be not-yet-addressed.
  11. Not boobs... Those are some massive cojones, man! πŸ˜‰ (more seriously, the overall "humanoid" bodyplan shouldn't be presumed to mean every aspect is identical; maybe that's a water-reserve from an arid-planet species, or ducts for holding a binary-ignition incendiary, or etc etc etc).
  12. Thank you, @AndreJarosch & @MOB. Next question @Chaosium: I know Chaosium doesn't want to see any AI work in product submissions. What about AI in "mood boards" & "reference images" & the like, when the author can't find good images to show an artist? I could see it used in place of "found online" art, to help the artist & author communicate better... not in place of paid art. (I ask specifically because I've got some ideas I've never really seen adequately portrayed -- and wouldn't care to attempt even a rough sketch -- but I suspect could be explored via AI imagery)
  13. I admit to a bit of puzzlement, on a couple of items above... "A production budget for their game." If the creators are mostly "new and upcoming" then they don't likely have any reasonable background to estimate such a budget. If their target is a 48 page manuscript with at least a small color artwork on most pages, plus a half-page piece at each chapter, and a full-page cover... what should their art budget be? Are they up to 64 pages in total? If they have no skills/background in layout, what should they budget for? Etc... "A competitor market analysis of their game, showcasing where it fits in the market as a product." Similarly, I'm unclear how much competence the newbie author/dev brings to this element. I suspect that any of a half-dozen folks @Chaosium will do better at this with a minute or two of thought, than any given "new and upcoming creator" will do after 20-30 hours of research. Thanks for any assistance in helping me resolve these puzzlements!
  14. The Syphon river flows backwards -- "up"river (whatever that means in this context). That would seem to make the river an extraordinarily-valuable route for commerce to the interior of Heortland. Or is it too problematic, with Chaos/etc genuinely hosted there? Or am I missing something else preventing such use? Also -- is it a saltwater river, as it flows up from the sea? Or is this a magic-Glorantha-thing, where the salt / brack / fresh regions are similar to other rivers (and earthly logic is shown the door)?
  15. Hi, I've got 2 Durulz I'm looking to illustrate. #1 - an NPC I'd like to show a pic of, to my players. He's a Durulz Humakti, of the Bufflehead clan. Are there any Buffleheads in the Duckpac books? What about the old Mongoose supplement? Any other sources? My inital Google didn't find anything... At worst, I may have to ask a couple of AI-art junkies who I know, if they can gen something up. 😞 #2 - a PC, a female Common Merganser (with the bright russet head) who is a Lunar warrior, YT or the like. This one almost certainly will need to end up as a commissioned piece of art, eventually, as there are too many too-specific details; "found art" online won't suffice. But as a first-pass and/or moodboard for an artist to reference, any pointers are welcome!

    Otters ...

I have BoHM, but don't recall this element and can't lay hands on it, at the moment. Can anyone explain this "why" (don't need the full myth, just the tl;dr & will read the full myth later (and thank you for the page-ref, @David Scott -- it's one I don't have in PDF). I see "Heort threw a rock..." on the wiki (hosted on fandom), but it's unclear if he was intentionally chasing them away, or if that was an unintentional side-effect (and why, it not being a Dragonkill or the like, they haven't gradually found their way back...?)). I had previously imagined them largely across the southern coast of Genertela (certainly including the Mirrorsea). ??? Am I just mis-remembering that the term was also used in the RQ2/RQ3 era, in one or more of the books set on the Zola Fel? (and to others in thread -- thank you for your suggestions & info & assistance!)
  17. I can imagine a future where people can get ☝️that☝️ -- animation & all -- as a postcard in their (snail)mailbox!
  18. I believe that someone @Chaosium has said that there's a Bestiary in the works... maybe @Jason D? I cannot find that reference, however, so I could very well be mistaken.
  19. @radmonger what are you using for these diagrams? I'm looking for a good tool to support R-mapping, and this seems like a decent 1st cut!
  20. I really hope the GM's book delves into these sorts of ideas!
  21. I think that's only one path forward. The Really Big Names don't settle down to a community-focus lifestyle... Jar-Eel wanders all over the WBRM map, and Argrath & Harrek circumnavigate the world. Granted they aren't explicitly "Shaman-Priests," but the principle holds that they are the ultimate "PC Exemplar" characters, the heights of lofty power to which PC's often aim. Moreover, the players themselves often prefer the "wandering adventurer" lifestyle for their PC's; for many it's what "feels like RuneQuest:" they were often given the "Grand Tour of Glorantha" treatment by their GM's who wanted to show off everything from the bustle of Nochet, to the arid wastes of the Wastes, to the stunning spectacle of Skyfall Lake (and falls!), to the weirdnesses of City of Glamour nightclubs, and Dragonewt cities. They have delved into the Earth Mysteries in the depths of the Paps, and ascended the slopes of Kero Fin to expand with the rarefied Air. They don't really want to become stay-at-home PC's. I think PhilHibbs' comments here are entirely valid -- the rules (so far) don't seem to support adventuring Shaman-Priests (and, FWIW many other Priest/Priestess characters adventuring instead of "settling down" as Community Leaders and chairpeople of the local PTA): I am hoping, on this front, that the GM's Book -- when it comes out -- will help us with these sorts of issues.
  22. if you only ever roll the x5, then it's not a problem. Similarly, the one-time (chargen) POW/5 calculation is FAR much less of a problem than repeated at-the-table x5's of *ALL* the characteristics (one can pregen them of course.. or just use the characteristic score as a rollable, pre x5'ed value).
  23. I realize I'm late to this party, but I'd go with something like: #1 - Set your QS in an existing RD100 setting (such as Red Moon Rising); your RPG/IP line anyhow, makes a great intro to the setting-IP and the rules! #2 - Reskin your El Dorado; keep the framework, but make it technological (and very non-human) alien invaders, downtrodden primitive humans. #3 - Set your Mars content on a more-technical / realistic (and thus very non-Barsoomian) Mars, to avoid conflict with Modiphius' license... Total Recall Mars, Mat Damon's The Martian, and the Kim Stanley Robinson Red/Green/Blue trilogy are all Mars, and AFAIK have no IP beef with one another, nor with Barsoom.
  24. That's really the new BRP vs the prior (BGB edition) of BRP, tho. Not a CoC-specific comparo (other than the one "Sanity" bullet-point). Nick's own summary -- "BRP is a massive pick-and-mix buffet you can use to roll your own RPG" -- is really spot-on. Don't think of the BRP:UGE rulebook as "a RPG" that's ready-to-play. I like the "toolkit" simile, and "build-your-own-BRP;" but the "buffet" idea works well, too. It's a compendium of BRP rules-variants, with which you can build any RPG from a no-magic / gritty-street-rats, to pulpy-Indiana-Jones, to 4-Color-Supers, to Tolkienesque high-fantasy. Rivers of London is based upon the novels of that name by Ben Aaronovitch. The RPG was designed & written with the specific idea that it would appeal to fans of the novels who may never have played any RPG previously, so it leans-in on simplified mechanics (and adds a bespoke magic-system, to better match the novels). It's still BRP. As for the CoC "... character percentile stuff from Call of Cthulu" this is most-likely that CoC7 switched the "basic characteristics" (STR, DEX, CON, etc) from the original 3d6 scale to a percentile score like the Skills are. This makes the "Characteristic x 5" roll (which is mostly the only at-the-table roll) much more straightforward. Each specific BRP-based game (such as RuneQuest) has its own variations & bespoke subsystems; but they are all minor variations that work smoothly with the core BRP engine they all share. There's no reason you couldn't or shouldn't take CoC's %Stat over to RQ, or RoL, or your own FrankenBRP game. (edit: are we being helpful, at all? If not, can you say something further, to help us help you?)
