  1. I've just introduced some reluctant Dnd5e friends to call of cthulhu and they are loving it. Dubious at first because they had played a single game in the past and didn't really enjoy it too much but by the sounds of it, their keeper had no idea/very little experience and loved my game. I ran darkness beneath the hill for them but threw in some dreams of my own for them and dropped them the yellow sign. Looking for suggestions on what to run next for them. Preferably something available on drive through as we are using roll20 and it's easier to make handouts from pdfs than having to buy the books and scan stuff. Preferably something that would last a good few sessions but not a full blown campaign like tatters. Thanks in advance.
  2. Maybe an idea could be that at character development stage, if a character had died then they don't get to roll upgrades?
  3. I suppose its a good enough idea. I usually run one shots and I allow my guys to use the same characters between games or new ones for each game. It's fun to have total fresh characters seeing another guy freaking out at shadows and what not. I've had people turn up at games I'm running with characters from other games which I just give a quick look at before play. If they die, it's no big deal. They just go back to their regular game as though mine never happened, quick San and hp reset and they are good to go. The leveling/development side could be cool but then it's gonna start generating animosity between players and keepers if and when a character dies. Some games are great for survival and some are not. Individual games would need some Sort of lethality disclaimer etc.
  4. @Mike M I'd love the opportunity to play test scenarios. I have various ways to do so from my local game store, games I run at home and I've recently just started using roll20. My players range from little to no experience all the way to RP enthusiasts which include a couple of amateur actors. For testing any scenario up to the length of 6 hours, I'd be ready to go and provide feedback within either 1 or 2 Weeks. Anything longer would require a couple of play sessions so it would purely depend on the length of scenario. Cheers, Gary
  5. @Bill the barbarian it sounds like you have quite a lot of people in your area (1 million was it?) and mention about mainly DnD and mtg groups at your local games stores? The whole idea of being part of the club is introducing people who play those sort of games to the chaosium ones aswell as people who have ayes neither. Ive had great success in the past by going to the local games shops and clubs where these are played to introduce players to CoC. I just turn up on games night or talk to the owners or players before hand and arrange a table for the following week. Even if you can get 1 or 2 people interested, over the week when thy are playing mtg or whatever else, they talk to each other. By the time the following week arrives I've usually got a full table. It has led to some sales of the starter sets from the shops I'm in which has then led to many thanks from the owners and some free drink grub. Think not what the cult can do for you but what you can do for you, by doing for the cult..... Push for what you want and chaosium intend to have your back. There is loads of material available for free as @Todd@Chaosium has already pointed out. He will even provide you with money for the chaosium store online if you get in touch after running events for free stuff (I've never bothered, wish I had though as I'd have quite a pretty penny by now). For me the reward is the fun I have at the table, it's that simple. My area has a lot more people interested in what I like (Call of Cthulhu) because I went out and actually interacted with the diverse community and introduced them to what I like. Try it. Make some friends, make some memories and come back and tell us all about it. You got this brother.
  6. I don't play 5e but I've heard of this term getting tossed around of an adventure league. I don't really know how it works though. How do you expect this to work with potential high mortality rate or sanity? Would it be each session would be like loading a save between games meaning a player can get to know their own character and how to play it etc? Would there be a tally for amount of deaths etc? Sorry for my lack of knowledge as I only keeper and play CoC. The idea does sound interesting though
  7. If the players know that reading a mythos tome is going to lose them sanity, when they first inspect the book or time just give them a rough indication. "you can tell this time looks quite heavily related to cult/mythos type stuff but it's content appear to be of a bizarre nature that fills you with unease".... "are you going to Read the book" there's no need to go easy on them. It's Call of Cthulhu.... That being said for the sake of fun and your individual group, you can rulw that it takes a week to read and the San loss/mythos increase happens during downtime.
  8. Name: Gary Country: Scotland, UK City: Glasgow Been running some games for friends and family for a while and have recenelty started using necropolis and deadboarder for some people at my LGS. The atmosphere is VERY loud there so I'm setting up to run games via roll20 that people can sign up to through my LGS. I'm a member of the discord server necronomicon and there has been a massive influx in new players since the release of the starter set so I'm going to be running a mixture of different games for new players on there to show them the ropes. I plan on running flotsam and jetsam through roll20 aswell in the near future.
