Frustrating that the first two cult books will be out in a fortnight and the physical Prosopaedia isn't available from the Australian warehouse yet.  I guess it'll take a while further for the physical cult books to be available in Australia.

    I am definitely feeling that.

Pretty sure that's a "no". I might allow natural recovery of any characteristic except POW, and even then it depends on the reason for loss, and getting access to Restore Health is by far the preferred option. Natural recovery through rest is going to take you out of adventuring for a while, and there are plenty of other things you can do with that time. It shouldn't be difficult for a community hero ace troubleshooter to get some Restore Health.

Not exactly the answer I was hoping for but seems legit. Thanks

  3. I allow a POW gain roll for succeeding in casting Spirit Magic in combat, I don’t require success at a POW vs POW (not everyone has Disruption or other offensive spells).

I grant an extra HP or two for the more expensive shield materials, otherwise why pay for them? I think that makes Wood shields (the most expensive but a significant multiplier ) +2 HP, and encourages Medium shield use in particular by making them tougher than broadswords.

I think that’s the two main ones I use.

  4. It’s supposed to support the “you can use any 1H sword at half your skill with another 1H sword”, e.g. if you were using a shortsword with your broadsword skill, you’d put in the Shortsword stats for damage etc, but link to the broadsword skill & put the half check box on. It’s worked for me before, I’ll see if I can do a bit of testing later this afternoon.

  5. From memory that function uses half of the skill listed - and it depends on an exact match text look up. So if you have a “1H Spear” skill at 10% it’s working correctly.

Edit: I've now done some testing and it's definitely a bug. I've never seen it do that before.

Well, there is the 'Skip Family History' part on pg. 29 of the RQG.

    Technically, yes.

But I like the way that it shapes adventurers and I definitely want something similar before I allow non-human PCs

  7. I have two key problems with non-Human characters, one of which is admittedly self-inflicted. 🙂

The general issue is character background. One of the best bits of RQG character creation is the three generations of family history because of how it grounds the adventurer in the world. I have no idea how to adapt that to the non-human races, especially when their lifespans don’t align more or less to human lifespans.

(The self-inflicted one is that I use an 18-16-16-14-14-12-12 array for characteristics and that doesn’t adapt neatly to non-human characteristics that aren’t all 3 - 18)

  8. I’d probably go with option 2 - the opposed resolution just feels Gloranthan to me. Sometimes the adventurer will flee, sometimes they’ll pick one of the undead to go berserk on, and sometimes it could be both…

I mean consider a situation where the adventurer succeeds in both passions, but with a stronger success (e.g. a special or crit) in the Hate passion. Remember that inspiring on a Hate passion gives you the bonus against one enemy, not all enemies of that type in the fight.

So in that situation the hate overwhelms the fear for one of the undead, and the adventurer fights with enhanced ferocity against that one target… then looks around after defeating it and possibly flees if other undead are still around as the hatred drains away.

  9. @Jeff wrote a very good guideline to the Battle of the Queens that I relied on heavily when I ran that battle. You can find that original guide here and I do recommend it:

My own experience running the battle, heavily informed by the above, is here:

Hopefully these will provide some insights.

    Base 15% + Culture 15% + Occupation (warrior) 25% + Cult (Humakt - "other weapon") +10% + (cult again) 20% + Free Skill Points 25% = 105%... no Manipulation bonus yet.

Sure, a Humakti is unlikely to choose that way, but you never know. Also, one might argue that the Humakti "other weapon" shouldn't be there, in which case, lose 30% (bringing it down to 75%, then add Manipulation bonus (only need 15% to get to 90%).

The only qualification I’ll make is that the +25/+10 personal interest bonuses aren’t allowed to take a skill past 100 including manipulation bonus.

There are also rules for high quality item crafting in W&E, as well as in The Book Of Doom I think. But that equally applies to swords, so doesn't change the dynamic. Except that anyone going for a quality sword is probably going to be after some other benefit than HP.

Agreed. Given a choice between +1 HP or +1 Damage for a high quality sword I would suggest that 90%+ will pick +1 Damage without even stopping to think. Then they’ll think about it, and pick the +1 Damage again anyway.
