  1. Now imagining a young Argath painting anti-Lunar slogans on the walls of Pavis and a Lunar minor officer comes and corrects his writing.
  2. Like Ramona Quimby, star of her own book series.
  3. Make it a former tax collecting station from the period of trolls charging Orlanthi taxes for protection. You could find ancient weapons, armor and ancient coins as treasure, troll tax records and darkness creatures who still hang out here. I love the idea of a big 'poster' of the Great Old One (a big rectangular hunk of stone with carved art)
  4. That's part of the premise of an ongoing fanfic series of mine.
  5. Pomatoes would probably cause him to immolate.
  6. By the Guide - Fonrit Kralorela East Islands, home to the goddess of chili peppers, Orandaliel
  7. In Citizens of the Lunar Empire (a Jonstown Compendium product which i super-recommend), the average city person lives in a multi-story apartment and business complex with a bar that also serves hot food and it's one of two places to get your grain dole (the other is a baker). You have paperwork that indicates the level your family is getting and the bar tracks how much everyone in the building has used each week; you can also buy things with cash.
  8. The only mention of them in the Guide is Fonrit.
  9. The Solar myth of potatoes would be that they were the result of Lodril crashing into the Earth and surrendering to the lusts of the Earth Goddesses, thus engendering the whole family of the root vegetables, the favored foods of lowly peasants and too unclean for the noble leaders of the Solars.
  10. https://wellofdaliath.chaosium.com/lunar-imperial-finances/ A Talent = 300 Lunars.
  11. That's the scam which keeps Dara Happa in line. But in practice, Yelm isn't really in charge of anything and certainly the Red Emperor is not really taking orders from Yelm or his cult. The Lunar cults control the Empire and the Red Emperor is closer to them than to Yelm. But this isn't the first time a cuckoo took over the Dara Happans as the Draconic Emperor pulled pretty much the same scam.
  12. Dara Happans basically lump Chaos in with the Orlanthi and other unruly folk. But also, Yelm is basically the Red Goddess' flunky at this point. Humakt just wants to stab and isn't too picky on the morality of it.
  13. Before Sheng Seleris kills him the first time, the Red Emperor pretty much just reincarnates. After the brutal metaphysical damage inflicted by Sheng, he's now a soul chunk that joins with different people, like Belintar, carrying the accumulated memories and central goal of the Red Emperor but it's also affected by its new host. Like a Star Trek Trill.
  14. Kralorela is as big or bigger than the Empire of Wyrm Friends or the lands of the three Councils. And hasn't spent centuries beating each other up like the Orlanthi. From an Eastern viewpoint, Dragon Pass is full of unenlightened yahoos who kill each for nothing and the Dragons and Dragonnewts of DP are doing it wrong.
  15. The Praxians also tend to have less wealth inequality, save between slaves and everyone else. It's hard for a nomad to really get rich.
  16. This is why Orlanthi society is not marked by uprisings of slaves and stickpickers.
  17. The sum of oppression + apparent weakness of a regime has to hit hit a certain level before people revolt. England basically had a single Peasant revolt on a large scale in its history and that required *the Back Plague* to set the stage. And even that was put down by the King lying to them. Rebellions within the ruling class are a lot more likely. A third factor is that a society with a lot of inequality can survive if most of the population feels it is possible you can rise to the top by your own strength.
  18. Filth and squalor isn't necessarily a source of disease in Glorantha - disease spirits are what do it. But I think an important part of it is that a lot of trolls' bellies are never full and cave trolls and trollkin are usally not going to care about hygiene unless you ride them like a horse.
  19. Originally, the answer was 'because they will break caste, lose their immortality, and swiftly die' Today, it's more on the lines with 'Learniing magic is very hard and the rest of society will butcher you first and many of you will cause disasters because you are trying to do experiments with nuclear reactors when you never finished high school.'
  20. Because one of the great strengths of the Lunar Empire is that they generally don't allow any part of the empire to be in a constant state of anarchy. Throw out the class system and you lose access to the magical benefits of your strain of Malkionism.

    Tapping

Tapping Chaos is like getting rid of nuclear waste by eating it.

    Tapping

    1. Animist societies don't see spirits as simply disposable goods. 2. As others have said, tapping utterly destroys something in a way too reminiscent of, say, Gorp at work. 3. The modern world doesn't have talking trees, nor do rocks potentially have souls. Large parts of the Earth were not destroyed in Godtime and lots of Earth societies believed that the world should not be approached in the way Robber Barons did. 4. Being associated with the Vadeli makes anything suspect. 5. Some ancient peoples did have limits on exploitation of the natural wold, such as the kapu system in Hawaii, the landscape management of many Native Americans, and so on.
  23. I operate on the idea that Arkat and Nysalor both got maneuvered to kill each other by Gbaji, who predates either of them (having clashed with Elmal before time even started) and that he basically won. What was left of Arkat, his purpose ended, wandered off to try to find another one. Nysalor was dead, and the stage was set for the Age of Empires.
  24. There's also an illiteracy plague for a while. And Argath is worshiped in the Fourth Age.
  25. Since we don't have the end of the Third Age detailed much for anything outside Central Genertla, it's hard to say what the Fourth Age really is. Especially since the Argath Saga is only one possible end to the story.
