Hello, everyone! So, for a while now I was thinking about moving all my OSR D&D stuff to BRP, since it's the RPG system I started with, and it's really versatile. I grabbed the Classic Fantasy book (which is really nice, actually), and throughout it, there are all these references to Vol. II: Gamemastery. For the life of me, I can't seem to find the book anywhere. Isn't it out yet? I'm sorry if this question was asked before, but I really am curious, since, being on holiday, I have his rare opportunity to read through everything I need to before actually starting to run something. Pleas

The Dicehaven blog recently reprised Ken Hite's 2008 review of Basic Roleplaying by Jason Durall. Said Ken back then, of BRP, "...the core is the same game we’ve all been playing since 1978, when Steve Perrin looked in his white box and said “I’ll bet I could design better rules than this.”... In short, it’s the cleanest, simplest, easiest generic system around. And now it’s in one book, not 20."

So how would you all compare and contrast Revolution D100 with the BGB? Do they have similar intent? Other than the obvious differences in the rules how do the goals differ? Do they have similar weaknesses? In what ways is one superior or inferior to the other?

I'm curious how many people play MW exactly as written (neat), with optional rules from the BGB (straight up), or with heavy house rules (on the rocks). How do you play? If you do change it up, what changes do you make? I switch out the variable armor system with fixed armor value. Not really sure why, other than thinking it's simpler.

My gaming group normally runs low fantasy, but during a recent session we were discussing other settings. Most of the players were RP virgins before joining, so a lot of this is new. Among the things that blew them away was the Shadowrun setting, since they hail from Seattle and had no idea it existed. So now that will be the next campaign. Thing is, I've never actually played it myself. I'm familiar with the setting via the videogames, and the consensus on rpg.net seems to be that the system is a bit shoddy. I have nabbed the 4th/20th anniversary core book and a handful of pdfs, but

Every time I skim through my copy of the BGB, this funny little example catches my eye: So knowing how the Resistance Table functions, it would seem to me, that the bigger you are, the easier it is to resist the effect of the hole to prevent you, and the bigger the hole is, the harder it is to get through. Big character vs. small hole is therefore easier than the other way around. I wonder what went on in the designers' minds when writing this? Is truly the very silly mistake I take it to be, or is there some hidden wisdom that I just can't grasp?

In the HP section on the character sheet from the BGB, where it has "DEAD(-____)" What exactly goes inside the parenthesis and what's up with the negative dash?
