  1. Hello fellow RuneQuesters. I've a player who became Thane of Apple lane after I ran that particular adventure (i've been running a campaign that mixes in my own things coupled with some of the existing adventures). He wants to invest the majority of the spoils from the Tusk Riders treasure (which he found because Durag switched sides when it was clear she'd die otherwise and as Durag didn't have hate for everyone and everything, and he rolled a critical success on Orate, she's now under guard but in theory a part of the town). He wants to do: Rebuild the pawnshop and hire someone to work there Invest to provide initial stock for the shop Look at building a proper wall around the town, with entrances at each road probably look to add a watch tower in the north and south Any suggestions on costs to do these sort of things? The economy of the setting is quite varied... (weapons and armour seem very cheap, magic stuff insanely expensive considering how easy such stuff in theory is to make, yearly earnings feel very small considering the cost of trading etc.) In addition, one of the PCs was very rich due to very lucky starting rolls and as of yet, hasn't spent the money. I'm sure I read about a way to become a noble would be to purchase a certain sized herd and property then petition the queen to be made one. It so happens they'll be heading to clearwine for the thane to be recognised as such, i'd like to be able to offer the rich PC the option to effectively also invest into the town by purchasing a herd whilst in clearwine along with employing herders and having him formally recognised as a noble via that too. Any thoughts? Anyone able to help with required size of herd? or was I imagining that? Thanks!
  2. Hello, I am trying to be a keeper in CoC 7ed since start of the august. After few first games I've been caught by thoughts that I am doing something wrong so I came here for clarification. First of all, how many actions do you have during the combat? Rulebook says that round is flexible unit so you can make significant action. But which action is significant? For example you can reload gun and move, but you cannot shoot after that, but (as I understand right) you can move, grab the knife, move back and attack, both actions would take a round but are they equal? As I understand movement is a free action, running - MOV x5 is free only for melee, but if you run before shooting you will get penalty die. Will you get penalty die if you grab weapon from the floor for example? I've tried to find topics about it but I didn't, so I am sorry if I duplicate quastion.
  3. Hay my writing buddies. I'm in a bit of a pickle. I want to run a Call of Cathulu Game with my friends but my mate wants it to be western themed. I thought "oh that's unique, could have fun with that" So I have a plot and a wicked bad-y but I'm really struggling on how to make it scarier in the town. Like the Bad-y's layer is super scary and deadly but everything else feels meh. If any scary writers wanna help out it would be greatly appreciated. Also should mention this is my first time running COC and I'll be using 7e Plot: The town of Pleasant Valley is well rooted near a rich coal filled hill. Already hooked up to the railway that runs every week on Tuesday, the town also has all the classic needs of a western town such as a saloon, brothel, doctor, bank and even an ice-creme parlor. Miners set up camp along the hill, they come and they go making their money from the town owner Mr. Hank Trudy to mine at the coal. One day a miner digs up a strange silver seed pod, he takes it to his tent secretly hoping its worth something big. In the middle of the night the seed pod whispers to him about riches if he follows its orders. The man plants the seed in an abandoned mine shaft and it grows. Major Points- -Seed pod is stationary and spreads as it grows. Its purple, slimy, pulsating, vein-y and smells flowery. -The seed pod creates eggs that when inserted into a female human grow into Brood -The miner helps infect three women, three brothel workers. They get pregnant and just think it part of the job. when its close to their time they are kidnapped and taken to the cave to be devoured by the babies inside. -Now the new brood can enter the town on their own and impregnate more women without them knowing. Using sleeping gas -I was playing with the idea that the big plant also makes more seed pods. these seed pods look like silver cases holding a slime covered glass ball. This slime when applied to the skin makes it soft and smell of flowers. This slime is actually enzymes that help the eggs inside the women but the miner has begun selling these seed pods as a cosmetic item. The pregnant women get their enzymes without knowing it and the miner gets money as promised. END Game- at the start of the week the three brothel workers go missing and the town doesn't know whats going on. One missing sure but three at the same time. On top of that Mrs. Kitty take good care of her girls and knows they are not the types to run away. The players have one week to figure out whats going on before the train arrives on Tuesday, once it does there will be enough seed pods disguised as cosmetic creme and brood babies to send on the train to hundreds of town just like this one to plant more and more seeds.
  4. Having run The Broken Tower, I am planning to run a session dealing with its aftermath when the characters return to the tribe with the cattle. The characters are an Orlanthi Noble, an Ernalda Earth Priestess, an Eurmali Entertainer, a Humakti Warrior, and an Old Tarshite Herder. They returned with both cattle raiders captured, a good two thirds of the cattle surviving, and the Ernalda Priestess having sacrificed to the Stone Woman. I have specific NPCs interested in what some of the characters learned. So the chieftain’s wife will ask general questions and will primarily be interested in dealing with arranging ransom and repayment from the offending tribe. She will general questions and take advice, but will be primarily interested in what the Orlanthi Noble has to say. The Lankor Mhy priest will want to know more about the Broken Tower and want to get up there soon. He will ask everyone questions The Maran Gor priestess will demand to know more about the Stone Woman and want to go there immediately. She will have lots of questions for the Ernalda Earth Priestess. Which leaves the other three characters. I want to involve them, but am not sure how. Anyone have any suggestions?
  5. Hi all (First post) The Problem im having at the moment is that my PC is a new character in group that was previously five (Now six) experienced call of Cthulhu players (Of which I am not). The main issue is that I’m still a deer in the headlights in the sense that my character gets a lot of sanity checks whenever anything remotely interesting happens while the other characters can just brush it off , i’m starting to make my character come to terms with some things but obviously some things I can’t just glance aside. I have no idea what the best way to further evolve said Character is. Advice? Apologies for the bad grammar, I have to use dictation
  6. So there will be spoilers from the Masks of Nyarlathothep in this thread, you have been warned! So I was running the Old Masks of Nyarlathothep for some friends of mine, and we were only two sessions in when the new edition dropped. (great timing I know!) So they are about to stake out the Ju-Ju house. I just got the new book mainly to get better art and portraits to show the players, but I noticed there was more parts to the NY chapter, so I wanted to incorporate it to my adventure without forcing it in. While I was reading about the 'innocent man' I began wondering when he will be executed. This is a questing I am sure the players will be asking. I am sure I can just make up the date without affecting the adevnture, but am I blind for not finding it, and if not, isn't this quite a major oversight? Thank you for your time!
  7. We’ve created a discord server for Call of Cthulhu called Necronomicon. We want to help unite the community who play this game not only to meet new, and awesome people but in addition to that help new players, and experienced find groups to play with. We want to help keep the game alive by making it easier for new players to find a group if they have difficulty in real life through the use of software & our custom made bot. By creating an expansive community we hope to use our custom bot to allow everyone to find a group to play with. We also have help channels which you can use if you have a quarrel with the rules of the game. As such you’ll receive live support instead of having to wait potentially hours or days for a response on the forums. We also plan to help events, say you have a live stream coming up to raise money for charity, just running an epic game or even hosting your own event in real life which is being streamed we’ll help promote it! However, to make this a success we need you, the community. By helping to spread this idea we’ll be able to develop a dedicated, mature and friendly community to entice even more people to play or even host their own sessions. Even if you only play the game at a table with your friends in real life you’ll still be a great asset to the community as well as the ability to meet like-minded people from across the globe you could even share a scenario you created with an easily accessible community. Our bot development team is creating an LFG tool to allow you to create games and then have new players join them, it’s currently still in development, at this current point in time you can create your own game and have others join it. You’ll then receive a private channel in order to play with your newly found group. As such, this is great for new players and through our combined efforts even more sessions will be running on the discord. Here’s a brief list of the current features which are accessible: A new users section with recommended platforms for online play if you’re only just thinking about hosting a game online (there are many benefits) We have a news and updates section which we will post news released by Chaosium and important updates so all you have to do is check out this section for your Cthulhu news. We also have a recommended YouTuber & twitch section for content creators that are worthy of your time if you’re looking for reviews on scenarios or just tips. Seth Skorkowsky is currently doing a series on the game system as a brief overview on the rules which I’d highly recommend if you’re thinking about picking up a copy of the rules. We have a help section which is provided by both Verified Keepers (a role which can be attained by request allowing you to access a private area of the discord so players do not have scenarios spoilt) as well as player provided assistance. As such you have a wide variety of assistance in the case you are unaware of what to do. We also reward players who help with certain roles, helping new players is greatly encouraged as remember, it’s them who will keep the game alive. A support section is accessible, this will allow you to ask help from staff as well as requesting an event. (not related to the game but rather the server, unless it’s an event) An entire discussions section for so you can talk to other players about Cthulhu, off-topic, Chaosium and more. You can also post any artwork you make in our artwork section. We will hold monthly competitions to help further the community such as a best Cthulhu related drawing, scenario creation, and more. A prize pool will be accessible for the winners. Voice channels to allow you to talk to other users A Keeper hub section for verified Keepers allowing you to discuss scenarios, leave reviews on whether you like them or not so Keepers can easily find out whether a scenario is worth purchasing, as well as help and a section to overcome a players disruption to your scenario/campaign. More features will be added as the community grows. We will welcome any ideas from our community. We hope to see you on our server shortly, help become apart of a hopefully ever-growing community so we can help attract new players to the game. Please invite your friends whom you play with so we can help build a base following which can then be built on through the attraction of new players! TLDR: We want to help further the community through the use of a group-finding bot making the game accessible to new players as well as those looking for a group to play with. We hope to make the game easier for new keepers, as well as experienced, to get help and find scenarios they may want to run with their group or find one of their own on the server. To conclude; by joining now you’ll be able to access everything Cthulhu related at the click of a button, the first 100 people to join will receive a special role to thank you for being the first members of an everlasting community. You’ll watch alongside us as this library of information continues to expand just like the universe. Hope to see you soon – Salt Join the cult today https://discord.gg/8yeAugS

  9. I just discovered BRP great family of d100 RPG's recently and I gotta say, I really like the look and feel of it so far. My only problem is that I don't have a group of friends to try it out with. You see, I'm military, and I'm stationed a few thousand miles from home, so all my role playing friends are on a time zone separate from mine. I'd use Roll20 and Skype to play with them, but they don't like the idea of playing that way. So, here I am, asking for help in finding a group of players for one of the BRP games that's willing to accept a brand new player into their ranks. Thanks for reading all the way through, hope you have a good day!
