  1. In celebration of Runequest Gloranatha: Quickstart Rules and Adventure coming home with ENnie Gold (and because I'll be running the Quickstart at a local convention at the end of the month) I decided to take the Pregenerated Player Characters and build little booklets for each PC. I just uploaded them over in the files section under the "Fantasy Other" Category. (There doesn't seem to be a RuneQuest Glorantha category yet.) Each booklet contains the relevant Rune Descriptions, Rune Spells, Spirit Magic Spells, and short descriptions of the respective PC's cult, as well as all the other information contained on each of the PC's character sheet from the Quickstart. My design goal was to build a little booklet which would allow a Player to flip through the booklet and find the relevant information for a specific rule or topic on a given page. I'm a big fan of the A5/8.5x5.5 format at the gaming table. They take up less space, you can hold them in your hands easily when flipping through them. The PDF is in a A5 format. You can print the PDFs using "booklet" formatting and get a 20 page doc on five sheets of paper. (There's a short table of contents after the coverer page. The whole idea is to make an easy to use, easy to access document for someone sitting down to play RuneQuest Glorantha for the first time.) The pages were built in A5 format. But you can easily print them in 8.5x5.5 format with only the slightest shrinkage to the text and no real effect on presentation. These is a format that i came up with for myself, of course. Which reflects my own thinking and design principles. But I hope people might find them helpful for getting new demonstrations of the game up and running. I haven't done a final proof on these yet, so if you notice anything askew, please let me know! Thanks! https://basicroleplaying.org/files/file/642-rqg-vasana-quickstartpdf/ https://basicroleplaying.org/files/file/643-rqg-sorala-quickstartpdf/ https://basicroleplaying.org/files/file/639-rqg-yanioth-quickstartpdf/ https://basicroleplaying.org/files/file/640-rqg-harmast-quickstartpdf/ https://basicroleplaying.org/files/file/641-rqg-vostor-quickstartpdf/

  12. This thread is for collection of errata in the RuneQuest Quickstart Rules and Adventure booklet; my hope is that some of these can be corrected or clarified for the 1 July 2017 PDF and print-on-demand releases. p. 7, Strike Rank Modifiers table and Magical Attacks and Strike Rank section: These sections both say that the first Magic Point in a spirit-magic spell does not add to the strike rank of the casting, conflicting with the Spell Strike Rank section on p. 20. p. 18, Spirit Magic section: Says that spirit magic spells usually have duration of two minutes, conflicting with Duration section on p. 20. p. 20, Spell Strike Rank section: This section says that all Magic Points in a spirit-magic spell add to the strike rank of the casting, conflicting with the Strike Rank Modifiers table and the Magical Attacks and Strike Rank section on p. 7. p. 20, Duration section: Says that all temporal spirit-magic spells last five minutes (25 rounds), conflicting with Spirit Magic section on p. 18. Back cover (bottom centre): In the "For more information about Chaosium..." text, "seeour" should be "see our".

    Weapon Damages

For those who've played the quickstart, how do you find the ratio of weapon damage to typical HP? I'm hoping to run it this weekend, and looking through the sample characters, I have a couple of concerns. On average, it seems that any successful hit from any weapon is either going to bring down a character or end their ability to fight -- without consideration of special or critical results. I know that Runequest is supposed to be a dangerous system, but that seems a little excessive, and not particularly heroic. Obviously armor and healing, as well as offensive and defensive magic, all have their part to play, but I feel like those should act as augments that require judicious tactical employment rather than blanket use. My gut feeling for how the hit layout might work is as below (obviously to vary by weapon): Regular: dangerous but survivable -- good armor proof against such blows Special: possible fight ender -- definite without armor Critical: immediate fight ender Fight Enders: Full damage to weapon arm (3 pts -- weapon dropped, cannot parry unless w/offhand), chest (5 pts -- incapacitated), head (5 pts -- unconscious) or either leg (4 pts - character becomes prone) Double or triple damage to any location (either incapacitated, unconscious, or dead) Battle Axe / Small Axe (1d8 + 2 + 1d4): 9 points of damage* Broadsword / Kopis (1d8 + 1 + 1d4): 8 points of damage Composite Bow (1d8 + 1): 5.5 points of damage Dagger (1d4 + 2 + 1d4): 7 points of damage Dagger-Axe (3d6 + 1d4): 13 points of damage Javelin (1d10 + 2): 7.5 points of damage Shield, Medium (1d6 + 1d4): 6 points of damage (!) Short Spear (1d6 + 1 + 1d4): 7 points of damage Sling (1d8): 5.5 points of damage *All damages shown as averages Some of the damage values seem to make little sense, too. Why does a medium shield do roughly the same damage as a short spear?

    Need to fix the layout

Was trying to talk someone through getting the quickstart pdf - didn't realize it was so hard to find! https://www.chaosium.com/runequest-glorantha/ ...shows ONLY that the quickstart is available to buy for $9.95. Only if you click on the book itself are you taken to https://www.chaosium.com/runequest-roleplaying-in-glorantha-quickstart/ where it says "oh, yeah, I guess you CAN download it for free, of course..."?
  21. It seems to me that the quick start rules (Pulp Cthulhu p.41) result in a much more skilled character than the regular rules. The skill points for Archetype and personal skills seem to be same so I'll ignore them and concentrate on occupational skills. The quick start rules allow the following skills 80, 2X70, 2X60, 3X50, 40 and ignore Base values. This gives a total of 530 skill points. The normal rules are more variable so I'll assume an average value and that skill points are based on 2X(Core + Edu). Average core stat = (3.5+13)X5 = 82.5 Average Edu = (2X3.5+ 6)X5 = 65 Skill points = 2X(82.5+65) = 295 Assume an average of 15 for the base skill gives 8X15 = 120 a total of 415 Even if we assume that the player got very lucky with rolls, that would yield Core Stat = 95 Edu = 90 Skillpoints = 2X(95+90) = 370 Assume the player chooses the 8 highest skills, that would give 30 + 2X25 + 5X20 + 0 = 180 for a total of 550 skill points. Am I missing something?

    One Parry per SR?

So when an encounter of trollkin, which are all identical as the GM is busy and doesn't have time for details, all attack the same person (well 4-5 of them), all at the same SR, the first guy sucks up your parry and the rest hack into you? Doesn't that imply that SR are a static measure of exact time? The 20% penalty is bad enough, and pretty much takes care of this for you. Sometimes you can't avoid these sort of situations, and being taken down by a swarm is realistic I suppose. :). However, it is another piece of book-keeping you have to deal with.
  23. flynnkd

    Special & Critical Damage

Just for opinions sake: does roll weapon damage twice for a special success include your damage bonus twice or not. And does it include any +1 (Broadsword) doubled or not? And, an Attacking weapon cannot take damage from a Parry anymore (for now anyway with the QS rules).
  24. Had a game last night where I noticed something I had never noticed before, which is that if your total HPs drops to 0 you die at the end of the round unless healed, same in the QS. The problem is with how on earth you would get healed by the end of the round if you use statements of intent? You would need to be sitting behind the lines with a statement of "I heal anyone who gets hurt". With statements of intent + die in the same round at the end of the turn it is not possible to save anyone? So either you say 'you die if you go to 0 hps' or you delay death one round to allow characters to make a last ditch effort to save them (which is what we have done). Myself, I have become pretty disenchanted with statements of intent, they are too rigid for a free form game, and they are too hard to recall the more players you have. There can be 20 mins between your statement and actually doing your turn (in my games). It has become increasingly difficult to use them (with 6 players) due to the mental attitude of the group (they are there to relax and have fun bashing things). YGMV.
  25. Hi, I've published a review of the RuneQuest Quickstart. This time in English. https://elruneblog.blogspot.com.es/2017/06/a-review-of-runequest-quickstart.html I have enjoyed reading it and I hope I can run the adventure soon, maybe I'll insert it in my Prax-Pavis campaign. In the review I also present some ideas of what sort of FrankenQuest I would build now.
