  1. Jonstown Jottings #1: Tales of the Sun County Militia: Sandheart Volume 1—A review of Jon Webb’s scenario for RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha published by Chaosium, Inc. http://rlyehreviews.blogspot.com/2019/11/jonstown-jottings-1-tales-of-sun-county_29.html #reviewsfromrlyeh #rpgreview #rpgreviews #rpg #fantasy #Chaosium #RuneQuest #JonstownCompendium #JonstownJottings

  3. Hi there, Researching in Internet Archive, i have found the original Mongoose RuneQuest I (MRQ I) SRDs for download. Browse down to Free Downloads section and look for SRD. https://web.archive.org/web/20090413001742/http://www.mongoosepublishing.com:80/home/series.php?qsSeries=39 Internet Archive is a magical and important tool these days. One can browse back to the past and read / download old stuff... ___________________________________________________ --- ALERT -- ACHTUNG -- ALERT -- ACHTUNG --- After a long discussion (and some unnecessary words), we realize that MRQ-I SRD (2006) is no longer legally valid, since both text/rules and trademark belonged to Issaries at that time (now Chaosium). And since OGL grants perpetual rights, and Mongoose was not capable to ensure perpetuity because she was not entitled to do so, this SRD SHOULD NOT BE USED in public (commercially or not). But you can use in private, for study or gaming. Moon Design bought RQ rights from Issaries. Moon Design bought Chaosium and transfered rights back to Chaosium. From Chaosium FAQ: Q: Can I rely on the Mongoose RQ SRD to publish material? A: No. Mongoose’s license for RuneQuest was terminated in April 2011. At that point, Mongoose lost all rights to continue using the RuneQuest trademark, or to create and publish material derivative from the previous copywritten material, or to issue any sublicenses based on that agreement. Since Mongoose no longer had any rights to RuneQuest, it has no ability to issue a third-party license to that material (which is all an OGL is).

    [WIP] Sylthi

As some folks may remember, I've been working on Esrolia material. I shared this rough draft map over on the Facebook groups recently, and thought some of y'all who don't get over there often may enjoy it. It's one district of the small city Sylthi, which I've been exploring and writing about. This project's something more or less on the backburner, but I find working on visual elements a fun way to relax, so I keep chipping away at it. Feedback or questions are welcomed, but I'm mostly sharing because I like how this turned out. As I work through more maps I'll probably share them in this thread, too. This is very much a rough draft, and will probably be revised several times as the City Guide keeps developing and changing. At the moment, my focus for Jonstown material is writing issues of MOTM, then probably Treasures of Glorantha volume 2, then something else (probably a piece called Melikaphkaz: the O-God of Traps). If you'd like to know more about what I've been up to (and see some more Sylthi concept doodles) I wrote about it over on my blog recently. The posts are long, but I hope pretty comprehensive. I'm happy to field questions about that stuff too, if folks have them.
  6. This thread is for collection of errata in the RuneQuest Quickstart Rules and Adventure booklet; my hope is that some of these can be corrected or clarified for the 1 July 2017 PDF and print-on-demand releases. p. 7, Strike Rank Modifiers table and Magical Attacks and Strike Rank section: These sections both say that the first Magic Point in a spirit-magic spell does not add to the strike rank of the casting, conflicting with the Spell Strike Rank section on p. 20. p. 18, Spirit Magic section: Says that spirit magic spells usually have duration of two minutes, conflicting with Duration section on p. 20. p. 20, Spell Strike Rank section: This section says that all Magic Points in a spirit-magic spell add to the strike rank of the casting, conflicting with the Strike Rank Modifiers table and the Magical Attacks and Strike Rank section on p. 7. p. 20, Duration section: Says that all temporal spirit-magic spells last five minutes (25 rounds), conflicting with Spirit Magic section on p. 18. Back cover (bottom centre): In the "For more information about Chaosium..." text, "seeour" should be "see our".
  7. I'd like to hear your house rules for XP. I'll share mine: Instead of box-ticking, we use a system similar to WFRP (1st ed) in our RQ campaign. After a session the players are rewarded XPs: 3 pts for joining the game 1–3 pts for roleplaying your character 1–3 pts for ideas that solved challenges 1–3 pts for surviving "a scene" 1 pt for the best D100 roll in a session (this rule is for our board gamers) 1 pt for beating an enemy (physical or social combat) + 2 pts for each player who voted you as "The Best Player" of the session. (The Best = best acting, best description, best idea, etc) After collecting all the points, the player continues with the normal advancement system of RQIII (rolling D6 for the amount of the increase and D100 for successful increase), with exceptions: you can increase whatever skill you want (yes, unlogical sometimes, but fun) and you do not lose any XPs; the points "lost" in unsuccessful increase, will be collected in XP Pool. Points in XP Pool will be used later to increase the level of success (skill rolls). The players seem to enjoy the system very much. And your system?
  8. Hi guys!!! Of course not only i want to know what you prefer, but also why!! I always used hit locations as GM, but i remember playing stormbringer and it was very nice and fast (though the random armor felt... Off) What are your experiences? Anyone changed any game (RQ, SB, CoC) to use the other option?

  11. Hey everyone. I started a blog post exploring the Disorder Rune and how we might be able to use them to craft interesting stories. This is the Second in a series of posts where I explore each Rune and what each area those runes cover and how we can use them as themes or as building blocks for storytelling. Post RuneQuest: Disordered thoughts on Disorder.
  12. September's MOTM—from Diana Probst of Beer With Teeth infamy—is now available on the JC! Years ago, a Lunar Hero and a Wind Lord of Orlanth fought a terrific battle which led to their mutual demise. Buried together in a single grave, the mingled remains wove their souls together. Now this tormented ghost haunts the dreaded Valley of the Blight, in the lands of the Cinsina Tribe. In this issue's "mini-adventure," your adventurers will get to: Fight or heal the wounded souls of two Heroes Discover the secrets of their fatal duel Strive to restore the Valley's Fertility—returning its spirits to Ernalda's bosom! This short adventure is intended to provide one gamemaster, and four to six adventurers, with an evening of play. About this Series: Monster of the Month is a series of new bestiary entries for Chaosium's RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha. In addition to statblocks and behavior, most entries will include supplemental detail and advice for gamemasters and/or new adventurer options for players.
  13. Wrote up a bit of a review of The Smoking Ruins Adventure with some of my thoughts on what to change or add to the adventure. https://monstersandmusings.blogspot.com/2021/09/runequest-adventure-review-smoking-ruins.html
  14. Hi as most of Europe starts to lockdown again thanks to covid, I'm looking for systems with good vtt integration. I see there's a character sheet on roll20 but no compendium etc. Which is a shame as other games seem a lot more integrated. Any thoughts on this? Anything been announced?
  15. Hi! I'm new to Runequest and I'm looking for an online game. I've also posted in Roll20 and FGU. I'm in PST. Wednesday and Thursday evenings are open. Saturdays and Sundays I have a little more flexibility. Reach out if you have a group that needs another player or if you'd like to start up something. Thank you for reading!
  16. Background: OK, so I'm in 1627 Fire Season and running the 2nd year of Grove of Green Rock with three adventurers mounted on Hippogriffs courtesy of the Pegasus Plateau. To change things up a bit, I swapped the listed 2nd year opponents for a pack of Broo... many of whom have wings (of various sorts), and can fly, along with some on the ground to keep the two adventurers who can't get up into the air busy. Warding: Here's where things get interesting, because they knew the battle would be at night (they were here last year after all), they laid out Warding's as shown in the attached screenshot. The yellow boxes are essentially tripwires - about 50m by 2m designed not so much to keep the attackers out, but to set off an alarm when the attackers arrive (the 1D3 damage is a bonus, but largely irrelevant in the eyes of the adventurers - knowing which direction the attackers would come from was the point). The blue boxes are almost "fighting boxes", semi-prepared positions where the defenders can hold and intercept with a little bit of countermagic & another 1D3 damage. Find Enemy: The other thing they did (in addition to personal protections like Shield, etc), was that at the first sign of trouble (like, oh, the glittery reflecting broo with draconic wings coming into view and lighting up the sky), every other adventurer cast Find Enemy on the airborne Terris. As written this creates a repeater effect where every adventurer can locate the enemies that Terris can see from the various castings. This was really clever, and I allowed it, but I am left wondering if either application of these common rune spells is possibly outside the spirit of what was intended for them. Thoughts, comments, queries?
  17. This month's issue of Monster of the Month is now available on the Jonstown Compendium! In this month's issue of MOTM, our attention returns to the smaller scale of Glorantha. Petty spirits provide unusual explanations for in-world phenomena: Bookwyrms plunder libraries, Children of Daga cause liquids to evaporate, and Child's Fortune presents mischievous imaginary friends to children. Each of these spirits provide texture to the mythic world of Glorantha by both subverting, and supporting, our terrestrial "common sense." They're suitable for use by both gamemasters and player adventurers alike. About this Series: Monster of the Month is a series of bestiary entries for Chaosium's RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha. In addition to statblocks and behavior, most issues include supplemental detail and advice for gamemasters and/or new adventurer options for players. Bookwyrm illustration by Laura Galli
  18. I am looking at running the adventures in the Gamemaster Screen Pack, however my game group is just myself and two others. We'd like to start a sandbox game in Dragon Pass, however a lot of the adventures assume more adventurers. Does anyone have advice on scaling the adventures for less players?
  19. "At last I'll be able to afford some clothes!" - just added the infamous cover of PLUNDER - Treasures for RuneQuest to our Redbubble store. (15% off everything there - t-shirts, mugs, posters, phone cover, notebooks and more for another couple of hours) http://rdbl.co/2clhB4E
  20. Secrets of Dorastor is out and can be found at https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/318512/Secrets-of-Dorastor?affiliate_id=66807. A snip at $25.00 for 259 pages, it comes out as a Bargain on the Brooke Scale. There is a Table of Contents at http://www.soltakss.com/JC/StormSpearia-SecretsOfDorastor-TOC.pdf. From Nick's Scenarios: "Complexity: medium to high – a massive collection of material compiled from many years spent running RuneQuest games in Dorastor, including many self-consciously gross old-school elements – tips sadistic gamemasters can use to upset munchkin players, rules for “hyper-critical” hits, and a boyish enthusiasm for violated orifices, succubi and acid damage. The author writes with oblivious relish about this disturbing material." Secrets of Dorastor is a campaign pack set in the fabled land of Dorastor, in Greg Stafford's Glorantha. Inside you will find: A gazetteer of over one hundred places, with a map of Dorastor and nearby areas and maps of key places in Dorastor Descriptions of forty personalities, both of Dorastor and the surrounding Borderlands 25 types of Monster, of animal, vegetable and mineral types Write-ups of 9 Organizations RuneQuest write-ups of 8 Cults, including adapting the cult of Humakt to Dorastor New abilities for Illuminates and a description of Illumination and its various Schools 15 Magic Items Encounter Tables of all the important areas of Dorastor Sample Campaign and Scenario Hooks Extended RuneQuest rules for High Level Adventurers Tips for playing High Level Adventurers and NPCs Based on the write-up of our Dorastor Campaign, with a great deal of extra material, this covers the land and people of Dorastor and its Borderlands. WARNING: Dorastor is the most horrible part of Glorantha, a cursed land full of terrors. Secrets of Dorastor deals with extreme horror, with topics including violence, cannibalism, seduction, forced matings, ritual sacrifice and the liberal use of acid. Please do not purchase this if these themes might cause offense.

  22. With the release of RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha on PDF, this thread is to catch any typos or errors spotted. Please note them here, quoting the page number, the error, and the suggested correction. Many thanks.
  23. Thank you to everyone who posted suggested corrections to our RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha corrections thread. We are now reveiwing those suggested corrections to prepare files to go to printer. We will also be producing an updated PDF which will be made available to everyone who has purchased the PDF. Once the updated PDF has been released, we will open this thread to catch any typos or errors spotted. We will continue to update PDFs on the Chaosium website, DriveThru RPG, and Bits & Mortar. Any later approved corrections will go into a subsequent printing of the book. Many thanks!
  24. I was hoping to find a convenient document that listed what each official (old and New) adventure was by name and what themes they included. Since there isn't one that already exists I started a Spreadsheet. Please add to it if you have read or run any of the adventures. Thanks. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DX7MRPvISwrrcOkzSbmK3oHqouMmZA1rcFCcyj-FhqA/edit?usp=sharing
