  1. I'm looking to run a game set in Safelester. I'm trying to find a "look and feel" for miniatures for the westerners. I use Ancient Germans (and some Gauls) for Orlanthi, Babylonians/Assyrians for Lunars (not needed for this game), Classic Era Greeks for the Sun Dome Temple. What seems appropriate for the west? Mostly I need bandits and soldiers from the city-states, but Seshnegi warriors and wizards would be useful as well. Any suggestions?
  2. D A R K V A L L E Y a basic roleplaying adventure by don jolly v.1.1 dark cedars climb the slope of somber hills. the passes ring with the calls of wildcats. Here come the warm spring rains, the gifts of dreaming Texas. Here come the trappers, through the dark, truding with strange pelts in tow. Dark Valley, Texas. Which men may never leave. Dark Valley is a campaign for Basic Roleplaying that I'm currently running for my group up here in Brooklyn. It's a western setting with a few interesting wrinkles and five intersecting storylines in which the player characters have a chance to intervene. I've run a few sandbox games before, but the flexibility of BRP expanded the scope of that sandbox tremendously. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say a few things: this module contains a giant feathered tyrannosaurus rex and a church where old issues of Amazing Stories are considered modern scripture. In terms of structure, I tried to emulate the better 1990s CRPGs -- think of the selection of quests and encounters that make up the original Fallout and you've got the idea. Check it out here: http://www.daggermag.com/darkvalley.html (Just click the map to download the module's .txt file -- easy to edit and manage at the table)

  4. Hi all Issue No.5 of The Hanging Garden is available here: http://2ndage.blogspot.com/p/the-hanging-garden.html It should be of particular interest to the members of this forum because it contains the history of two Italian BRP supplements, Basic West and Basic Egitto, and two Western BRP scenarios (amongst other articles).
  5. So if this is not the place for this, please feel free to move... I have been going over different rule ideas and was toying with alternate attack methods. Long story short I contemplated what fanning a six gun in a BRP might look like Fanning Fanning of a revolver was a common means of firing multiple shots in a short amount of time. To do so in combat a character declares he or she is "fanning" on their attack and picks 1 to 3 targets in their line of sight. On the character's normal attack SR, he or she makes a single attack roll at a 25% penalty. If the roll succeeds, roll 1d3 to determine which target is hit and allow that character to make a dodge roll (if applicable). Even if the attack fails, the firing character pits his or her POW against the POW of each of the targets. If the attacker succeeds against a target, that target has a 15% penalty on all actions for one round. So the idea is that even though inaccurate, fanning can be intimidating because of the hail of bullets. Here are some thoughts I had on it Is 25% enough of a penalty for the shooter? Is 15% too big a penalty for the targets? If using Special Successes, 2 targets are hit on a special success If the roll is a critical, all three targets are hit Just curious what others might think. I may actually do a Wild West version of Q21 after Skaerune' and Runed Worlds, so it is not just a throw away thought.
  6. Aces High is a mythical western supplement. It’s a different time, a time where violence is an everyday occurrence on the frontier of Civilization. A time of six gun shoot outs, red skins on the war path, dying cowboys under a desert sun. A time where the people drag a living from the land of dreams. Violence is an everyday occurrence on the frontier of Civilization. Dust swirls around a crimson sun, reminding every one of their possible success, telling them of their mortality. Prospectors are raping the hills for precious metals; dumping their waste in the fresh, clear rivers. Buffalo hunters slaughter vast herds of buffalo for their valuable pelts, leaving a wake of rotting carcasses, a mountain of bone and skulls. The Law can barely cope, as lynch mobs leave cadavers hanging from the trees. The Redskins fight for their very existence, caught between death and degradation. The old powers cannot compete with the new power from the East. By Stuart Godbolt. 112 pages. Published by Chaosium March 2009.
  7. I'm a sucker for atmosphere when I lead a game. I have this music program, Spotify, with all kinds of music on it. I've built playlists for all kinds of situations, and for different kidns of settings, but i've recently become interested in a Western setting, which is nnew to me. So my question goes, What music is best for roleplaying, andnin what setting? And do you have any good tips for Western rpg music?
  8. I am going to be running a Western/Fantasy 1-shot at GASPCON in Pittsburgh this year (2012) in November. I found a fun adventure called Devil Gut Rock in the latest One Page Dungeon download. Basically it will be some dungeon crawling cowboys. Campaign Wiki DungeonMaps: One Page Dungeon Contest 2012 I was just curious, the Malfunction stats all say 00 in the BRP book. If I am running a true western setting I'm guessing these guns would malfunction a lot more. So... what would you guys think these Malfunction rates would be for the following guns? Revolver Heavy (Colt .45) Revolver Medium (.38) Revolver Light (.32) Pistol Derringer Rifle Bolt Action Rifle Lever Action Shotgun Double-Barreled Also, has there ever been any official BRP stats for the Lever Action Rifle? Maybe in the errata somewhere? I didn't see it in the big chart O' weapons. Thanks.
  9. This supplement is a companion book for the Aces High setting. Incident at Alice is split into two sections; the first section is concerned with historical, geographical and societal issues that will allow the Master to explore some of the land of New Mexico during the appropriate period. The second section is a scenario which will allow the players to interact with some of the people and creatures that live here. In the scenario the characters will be involved in a bank raid and will chase an Apache outlaw across rugged terrain. Along the way they will begin to learn of the supernatural entities called the Kachina, sacred, mythical spirits of the Pueblo dwellers religion. The Puebloans themselves have a long and, at times, dark history. Some of which waits to be discovered in one of their forgotten, holy sites. The characters may begin to understand that not all Native Americans are the same. Being able to tell the difference between the thoughtful, artistic Puebloans and the warlike, aggressive Apache will give the characters some insight into the many divergent philosophies that are endemic of the native populations. In the end, learning this difference may be the weapon that allows the characters to succeed or fail in their quest. By Stuart Godbolt. To be submitted to Chaosium by October 2011.
