The 2009 Halloween Adventure Contest

Write a Chaosium Halloween Adventure!

Halloween Approaches!

Well sure, it's still many months away. But it is time to start our annual Halloween Adventure Contest so we can get the book printer before October this time around. To enter, write us an original Call of Cthulhu or Basic Roleplaying adventure which take place over Halloween.

Our contest winners will receive one PDF copy and one physical copy of the monograph, as well as a $50.00 gift certificate redeemable through our Chaosium.com Catalog.

Here's your chance to see your name in print, spread some Halloween joy, and win some groovy Chaosium stuff.

Halloween Contest Rules

Each entry must be an original CoC or BRP adventure between 5,000 - 7,000 words. Text files or word documents only. Don’t submit PDF’s, quark files, etc. Don't worry, 5,000 words is much shorter than it sounds!

Entries must be submitted by August first, 2009.

One entry per individual.

Adventures can be set in any time period you desire so long as the adventure is original and takes place during Halloween/Samhain.

Adventures must utilize Chaosium's BRP system and no other game system. Yes, our Call of Cthulhu RPG uses the BRP system.

All entries become the property of Chaosium Inc.

All entries must be in English.

Any images or maps that accompany your adventure must be copyright free. Art isn't required.

Entries must be emailed to dustin@chaosium.com.

Entries must be submitted along with your name, email address, and shipping address.

In the unlikely event that we don't receive enough winning entries to print the adventure monograph, the winners will instead receive copies of all the winning adventures as well as one copy of a different monograph.

Chaosium reserves the right to change these rules as often as we like, with no warning. You can count on the fact that we probably will. Come to think of it, maybe we have already... It's best not to dwell on these things.

Wow! They are giving us six months for this one. Maybe I can find the time to write up Mall of Cthulhu for Halloween.

Check the submission date - it's the 1st of August - which (since it's damn near April 1st now) gives us FOUR months - and a pretty good chance that this monograph will actually be released for Halloween this year, which is the stated reason for the early launch...

Truth be told, I was hoping to see plans for another BRP Adventures monograph. I like the greater variety of genres and adventure types.

Err, the entry details specifically state BRP adventures are ok - the only stipulation is "Adventures can be set in any time period you desire so long as the adventure is original and takes place during Halloween/Samhain."

What stars are visible from the surface of Mars in the vicinity of Olympus Mons on October 31st 2037? Why would Halloween/Samhain have significance to the survivors of the Fall in Post-Apocalypse Limousin? Why would colonists on an alien world a thousand light years and ten generations away from Old Earth still celebrate All Hallows Eve?

:D See - just take it as a challenge to ones scenario writing ingenuity.

Cheers,

Nick

I think I am finally going to get my act together and write up the Cthulhu Gaslight scenario I have had sitting around for a while and play enough time to know it works. Samhain, pagan druidic cults, decadent gaslight drawing rooms, add in a dash of absinthe and a mad artist, and you get something hopefully worth including into the scenario contest.

...Why would colonists on an alien world a thousand light years and ten generations away from Old Earth still celebrate All Hallows Eve?....

Maybe they only get paid quarterly and that's payday? Imperial Decree. They can finally get on AOL. That when the dead really do come to visit. The gate that goes back to Earth gets turned on once a year. Its the 1000 year anniversary of the release of BRP?

Like people need an excuse for a party? On Earth about half the people seem to party it up Dec. 31st just because it's time to change the calendar.

Chaos stalks my world, but she's a big girl and can take of herself.
