Yeah the way I read that rule was that it's not really that you suddenly get armor on your hands, but that you're good enough that you deflect 6 points of damage away

That is exactly the way it works.

The fact that the rules mention "different schools of martial arts" makes me wonder if we'll see optional unarmed combat rules in a supplement in the future

I hope that. There is room for it, but I'm in favor of more skills, not less.

RQ is for impaling people with spears

Yes, and combat manoeuvers, and gritty combat.

I did go back to 2 & 3 and didn't see anything, doesn't mean its not there though. I like to keep it simple and just say the parking natural weapons just keeps the attacker from connecting

Still have not found... but I did confirm some of it see the next quote

This may be the reason limbs are given 3 ap temporarily for parrying in RQ 3

I have found this rule on page 60 the players hand book AH  box st RQ 3  and they give it to a parrying arm when parrying with Fist Skill , I might give it to a parrying limb... maybe with Martial arts being required. Armour will add as usual.

Please, yes! Tthere are way 5 or 7 pages of great optional combat gritty goodness at the tail end of the combat section section some great unarmed combat rules. Just checked and depending how ya count it,  one could say there are up to 20 pages of optional combat most at the end where it is easy to find and where it would be easy to leave out.

... remember, with a TARDIS, one is never late for breakfast!
