Greetings from The Chaosium,

We hope that you and your family are safe and healthy. 

During these challenging times we want to reach out to the gaming community and provide you all with some information about what we have been up to as we adjust to the New Normal™. 

We sometimes describe ourselves with the phrase, “the sun never rises on Chaosium”. We have people on our team based all around the globe - in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Poland, Germany, Bulgaria, and Australia. Because we've all been working from home since 2015, the COVID-19 'social distancing' requirements have not really impacted our going to work. Of course, now we are accompanied by spouses, significant others, and our children on an ongoing, daily basis. In some ways we are reminded how the company was first described, and how it got its name: A house of chaos located near a colosseum.

In other ways COVID-19 has impacted what we do, and that’s what we wanted to spend some time talking about. As more gaming moves online we are seeking out new ways to support our games and players, be it through live streaming, podcasts, AMA sessions, and online gaming platforms such as Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, and Astral VTT. 

Our most recent addition to our website provides you with resources and recommendations for playing Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, King Arthur Pendragon, HeroQuest, and 7th Sea online while at home. Have a look at: https://www.chaosium.com/online-gaming-getting-started for more information. 

Also, please stay tuned to our various social media channels as we announce more of our efforts to help Chaosium fans stay connected and enjoying playing our games. 

While a large catalog of our digital products is always available on our website and on DriveThruRPG, getting hold of printed copies of our games is becoming somewhat more challenging. FLGSs have had to curtail their opening hours, or may not be open at all. Our distributors also face some difficulties with their supply chains. Even buying from us directly via our website may become more complicated for you as certain countries becoming more restrictive to ship to, and with more limited options. Remember though, if you purchase a PDF product from the Chaosium website, you will get the full price of that PDF off the physical version should you decide to buy that from us later. 

We are closely monitoring the situation regarding shipping and fulfilment with our distribution partners and we will keep Chaosium customers updated. Regardless, you will continue to receive the same quality of service and support that you have come to expect from us.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - March 27

Chaosium’s fulfilment warehouses (USA, UK, EU, and Australia) report that they are currently able to ship product as normal, with a few restrictions shipping to certain countries. We will announce any changes to this status as the situation continues to unfold.

Buying electronic versions of our products from Chaosium.com or DriveThruRPG is, of course, unaffected. 

Remember, if you buy a PDF direct from Chaosium, you get the full price of the PDF off the printed book if you decide to buy it later. That means you can start reading or playing straightaway, but get to split the overall cost of the book into two payments months apart. We get it though, if current circumstances mean this is something you can't afford right now. In the meantime, please enjoy some of the free material we're offering on our website (see the Free Stuff section), watch some of our videos at our YouTube Channel, or color in some eldritch scenes of Lovecraftian horror.

Chaosium products that you order from our website are sent to you from our fulfilment warehouses in the USA, UK, EU, and Australia. At present, all four warehouses are reporting they are able to ship product as normal, except to Norway and Switzerland where delivery is currently not possible.

Our Chaosium merchandise store at Redbubble is also printing and shipping as normal.

Please note that delivery times may be slower than usual though. We will announce any changes to our shipping and fulfilment status as the situation continues to unfold.

Remember that buying electronic versions of our products from Chaosium.com or DriveThruRPG is of course, unaffected. And, if you buy a PDF direct from Chaosium, you get the full price of the PDF off the printed book if you decide to buy it later.

We've made the decision to not reduce our headcount nor cut anyone's hours: our team are Chaosium and what makes the company succeed. But we appreciate that many people are doing it tough in these strange and difficult times. We get it though, if current circumstances mean you can't afford to buy our products like you may have done in the past. In the meantime, please take a look at the Free Stuff we're offering on our website and our YouTube Channel, or maybe take part in our RuneQuest Coloring Contest.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - April 17

We hope that you, your family, and your friends continue to be in good health.

Last week we were interviewed by ENWorld about the impact that the shutdown of Alliance/Diamond Distributors has had on our business. As we mentioned in that article, Alliance is one of our biggest distributors to game stores, so this does affect us directly, and we appreciate that game stores everywhere are hurting right now too. Game stores can order directly from us though, without going through a distributor. Any store that wants to consider that is welcome to get in touch with Dustin, our distributor and retail support specialist: dustin@chaosium.com

Fortunately, we are still able to ship products that you order directly from us via our website Chaosium.com. Our own fulfilment warehouses (USA, UK, Australia, EU) are operating as normal, though delivery times may be slower than usual. The only countries we can't presently ship to are Norway, Switzerland, and Ukraine.

We are continuing to roll out fun things to help keep you entertained at home. Most recently, we released the first in our free fiction, a Miskatonic University tale by Molly Tanzer, along with free virtual backdrops to liven up your online gaming sessions on Zoom and the like. We are also running our RuneQuest coloring competition. Meanwhile, our YouTube Channel continues to show Call of Cthulhu actual play and more.

Chaosium has been fortunate that (so far) throughout the COVID-19 situation all our warehouses remain open and are able to ship product. We also opened a new fulfilment warehouse in Canada last month, something we'd been working on for some time for the benefit of our customers north of the border. 

While delivery times may be slower than usual, the only country we currently cannot ship to is Norway. We will announce any changes to our shipping and fulfilment status as the situation continues to unfold.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - May 12th

We hope that you, your family, and your friends continue to be in good health.

Chaosium's warehouses in the USA, UK, Australia, Poland, and now Canada, are all shipping product normally. While delivery times may be slower than usual, the only country we currently cannot ship to is Norway.

We have also been advised by Diamond/Alliance, one of our major distributors, that they will begin resuming operations the week of May 18. This is good news for game stores!

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting communities everywhere. We are all in this together, all over the world, and it's never been more urgent to support the global response. We're supporting global relief efforts for the COVID-19 situation in several ways:

  • Until the end of this month, we're donating 100% of the proceeds of the "Pay-What-You-Want" Gloranthan board game Last Faction Hero to the World Health Organisation's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Last Faction Hero is available to download as a print-and-play game at our new page at itch.io.
  • At our Redbubble merchandise store we're offering face masks featuring dozens of Chaosium designs to wear until the Stars are Right again! For every mask sold, Redbubble is donating a mask to the Heart to Heart International charity.
  • At DriveThruRPG, we've included RuneQuest Classic in the Cov-19 World Food Programme Bundle. This charity bundle contains titles worth a total of $625.51, but is available for $19.95 – a saving of 97%. All proceeds from this bundle will go towards the WFP's efforts to prevent hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - May 22nd

Chaosium has fulfilment warehouses around the world (USA, UK, Australia, Poland, Canada), and throughout the Covid-19 crisis fortunately we've been able to keep shipping products as normal, with only a few exceptions. We're pleased to announce we can once again ship to Norway.

Spring Cleaning Warehouse Sale

Our spring-cleaning warehouse sale is still going on, and there's lots to choose from at special prices so we can clear some shelf space. Please note that products are only available at certain warehouse locations.

Gen Con Cancellation

As you may have already seen or heard, Gen Con has announced the cancellation of Gen Con 2020 this August in Indianapolis, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As an exhibitor of very long standing at Gen Con, running hundreds of events, Chaosium is of course disappointed this year's event cannot proceed. But we appreciate that the organisers considered everyone's health and safety to be the foremost priority in making this difficult call.

Gen Con has announced a virtual convention during the original dates (July 30 – Aug 2), and Chaosium will be looking ways we can actively participate!

Chaosium supporting Covid-19 Relief Efforts

  • We're donating 100% of the proceeds of the Gloranthan board game Last Faction Hero to the World Health Organisation's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund until the end of May. Available to download as a 'pay-what-you-want' print-and-play game at itch.io.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - November 6th

Throughout this challenging year, while there has been some delays in the mail at different times and places, fortunately we've been able to keep our fulfilment warehouses in the USA, UK, Poland, Canada, and Australia open throughout. And remember, while you're waiting for your physical shipment from Chaosium.com, you have the PDF already to read, play, and enjoy. 

The Covid-19 pandemic is also causing disruptions to international freight movements. These too are out of our control, and has meant we've had to push back some release dates. 

Fortunately, we have just received confirmation that the Malleus Monstrorum shipment will arrive in the US on November 12, and in Australia few days earlier. These shipments then need to clear customs and be transported to our warehouses, but we hope to have the Malleus Monstrorum slipcase available for sale in these locations before the end of the month. UK, EU, and Canada will be a few weeks after that.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - December 7th (Malleus Monstrorum news)

 

We hope that you, your family, and your friends continue to be in good health.

Good news! - the Malleus Monstrorum slipcase sets have arrived at our Australian and US Warehouses. We will be making those items for sale later this week (update: will go on sale next Monday, 14 December). If you've already bought the PDF direct from Chaosium.com, Dustin will email you the discount coupon as soon as the physical books are available to purchase.

But what if you are a Canadian, EU, or UK customer? Please note the Malleus Monstrorum slipcase sets are due to arrive in our Canadian and EU warehouses within the next two weeks, but are not likely to get to the UK warehouse before early January.  

Customers that are used to purchasing from our Canadian, EU, and UK warehouses (for lower shipping costs) will probably want to wait until those shipments arrive to get the best shipping rate. 

While we wish the books were in all our warehouses, the Covid-19 pandemic is causing disruptions to international freight movements that are out of our control. We ask for your patience until they do arrive there. We will announce such arrivals as soon as we are able.

Please note that due to the UK border shutdown, shipping from our UK warehouse to addresses outside the UK is currently unavailable. We have turned this option off on our website. If you have made such an order in the past several days we will be in touch to make other arrangements.

Our five fulfilment warehouses (USA, UK, AUS, EU, CAN) are all back and operating normally after the holiday break. The Covid-19 situation continues to cause some delays to postage times, but if you want to check the status of your order, you can always drop Dustin a line: dustin@chaosium.com. And remember, while you're waiting for your physical shipment from Chaosium.com, you have the PDF already to read, play, and enjoy.

Please note that due to Brexit-related disruptions, our UK warehouse cannot currently ship orders to customers outside the UK, and UK customers cannot order from our EU warehouse. We will advise when this situation changes.

While the Malleus Monstrorum slipcase set is due to go on sale from our Canada warehouse by the end of month, we wish we had better news for our UK customers. Unfortunately, because of Brexit-related disruptions, the pallet we sent to our UK warehouse never made it across the Channel. Our shipping agent was forced to send our shipment back to Poland. Regretfully, they informed us that their warehouse in Calais was already overflowing with other delayed shipments, and that they had nowhere to store ours. We are actively looking at other options to help our UK customers, and appreciate your patience.

While our five fulfilment warehouses are all open (US, UK, AUS, EU, CAN), the Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause some disruptions to postage times. In Europe, we're experiencing delays to certain areas including Greece, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden. The current delivery time from our EU warehouse to these locations is 14 - 21 days.

Additionally, due to Brexit-related complications our UK warehouse is currently unable ship orders to customers outside the UK, and UK customers cannot order from our EU warehouse. We will advise when this situation changes.

UK Malleus Monstrorum Update

In our previous shipping and fulfilment update we mentioned our difficulties getting the Malleus Monstrorum slipcases across the Channel (due to Brexit-related congestion in Calais, our shipping agent regretfully had to send the pallet back to Poland). 

Michal, our resourceful chief of operations, has tried a different approach, with the new shipment instead landing in Bristol. However, the estimated delivery date for this was 27th January and unfortunately, according to the latest tracking information, the shipment is still in transit. This situation is beyond our control and we appreciate the ongoing patience of our UK customers!

UK Warehouse - Malleus Monstrorum Update

With great relief we can finally announce that our Malleus Monstrorum shipment finally (!) overcame Brexit challenges and successfully made its way over the Channel to our UK warehouse, albeit nearly six weeks later than anticipated.

The Malleus Monstrorum slipcase set, special leatherette edition, and associated Malleus Monstrorum Keeper Deck are all now available to UK customers. And from our four other warehouses around the world too. These shipping delays are beyond our control and we appreciate everyone's patience!

For now, due to ongoing Brexit-related complications our UK warehouse is currently unable ship orders to customers outside the UK, and UK customers cannot order from our EU warehouse. We are waiting for various issues to be sorted out, including delivery duties and fees that might need to be paid (this particularly impacts smaller purchases). We will advise when this situation changes.

While our five fulfilment warehouses are all open (US, UK, AUS, EU, CAN), the Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause disruptions and delays to postage times in many places around the world.

USA customers – please be aware we are currently experiencing shipping delays out of our US fulfilment warehouse, Bang Printing. Dustin has advised that Tyra, our account representative there, has been doing a heroic job keeping things moving. Nonetheless, March shipments, orders, and replacements are going out slower than normal. Bang have recently put on new staff (and Dustin also sent Tyra cookies over the weekend), and so we hope the US shipping situation improves soon.

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - 10 September 2021

We hope that you, your family, and your friends continue to be in good health.

Sadly, although it's been almost a year-and-a-half since our first COVID-19 shipping and fulfilment message, disruptions continue to affect international shipping movements and postage times all over the world.

While we're fortunate that throughout the pandemic our five fulfilment warehouses (US, UK, AUS, EU, CAN) have remained open, one of our biggest challenges in this "new normal" is release dates. For example, we were very confident we'd have the eagerly-anticipated RuneQuest Starter Set in all our fulfilment warehouses by the end of summer. Unfortunately, due to shipping delays out of our control, that was not to be. But the RQ Starter Set release is now (very) close: you can sign up here to get an email the moment it becomes available in our webstore!

COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update - 30 April 2022

We hope that you, your family, and your friends continue to be in good health.

Sadly, although it's been more than two years since our first COVID-19 shipping and fulfilment message, delays and supply chain disruptions continue to affect international shipping movements and postage times all over the world. If anything, they have got worse. 

However, we're happy to say it looks like the next month or so is going to be a very, very busy time for us. During May (and perhaps into early June) we'll be releasing four highly anticipated titles:

  • Cults of Cthulhu*
  • A Time to Harvest*
  • Call of Cthulhu Starter Set (40th Anniversary edition, with new box art)
  • Plus, fulfilment of the long-awaited Call of Cthulhu Classic Kickstarter! (if you missed the Kickstarter, we'll be selling the remaining copies via Chaosium.com AFTER distribution to backers is completed).

*Remember, you can buy and enjoy the PDF versions of Cults of Cthulhu and A Time to Harvest now, and we'll deduct that cost from the physical versions when they are released.

While the pandemic is by no means over, for better or worse the world seems to have transitioned to a "new normal" and so this will be our last COVID-19 Shipping and Fulfilment Update (future updates of this kind will just be 'Shipping and Fulfilment'). There was great uncertainty in April 2020 as the pandemic spread across the globe, but we made the decision at that time to not reduce our headcount nor cut anyone's hours – our team are Chaosium and what makes the company succeed. Thanks to your support we've been able to stick to that, and will continue to do so. 

We appreciate people buying direct. It helps the company as these trying times continue.

I try to split my orders between Chaosium-direct and FLGS.

Because I want to help the FLGS's through these trying times, too!
