Does RQG have the concept of an Extended Contest?

I can't find it in the Core Rulebook.

However, I seem to remember something at the back of my mind that has something about a Resolution Pool.

I've never heard anything like that, though the term resolution pool does ring a bell somewhere. I know for a fact there's nothing like that in 1-3, and am like 80% sure it's not in Mythras, so it's probably some odd rule from a corner of MRQ.

No, but it's a concept I will likely carryover into RQG particularly in situations that call for Opposed Rolls in dramatic circumstances (e.g. the characters debate the villain in front of the chieftain, or an extended climb) where a single Opposed Roll seems unfulfilling.

Exactly. Let's hope the GM Book includes something like that, otherwise the only extended contests in RQG are combat (physical or spiritual) and chases.

Just had an idea for combats.  IMO, too many Big Dramatic Combats are decided too quickly by a lucky Crit.  Just happened to our group, the Big Bad Lunar RuneLord went down in one round.

Fire and Sword had a spell called "Cushion Impact" that kind of gave you one extra chance, took some of the luck (good and bad) out of it.

In any "Extended Duel" type of thing, I might go with a special rule that the first crit against each participant is downgraded to a normal hit.

Enemy rune levels get Divine Intervention. Problem solved (or saved for the next attempt)...

And, given the number of ties in RQG implementation of Opposed Rolls, that will be a common situation.
