Although Rick is the Chaosium collector par excellence, when sorting through the company archives last weekend getting ready for the coming Chaosium Con auction, he came across a RuneQuest item he'd never seen before...

This is a very late post on a question of yore:

Penny used the Stormbringer (or Elric) rules to run a campaign set in the Castle of Eyes while she was exploring the plot and setting for the book, as a way of finding her way through the castle. The players loved it, particularly her friend who had never roleplayed before but absolutely loved being utterly outrageous and whaling away with a greatsword. I cannot recall at what point we decided not to proceed with the RPG setting.

Best,

Mark

This is an amazing bit of lore; TYVM for sharing it here!

In his newest 'Out of the Suitcase' post, Chaosium president Rick Meints talks about Games Workshop's ill-starred attempt to release an electronic collection of the first 10 years of its White Dwarf magazine (1977-1987). All 90 issues were scanned in, cleaned up, and made electronically searchable. But unfortunately GW then realised they didn't own the rights to many of the articles in those long out-of-print issues, and the project was killed. But not before some advance marketing copies leaked out into the wild...

@Rick Meints I bought mine second-hand in a Oxfam shop ironically in Hammersmith near the original Games Workshop shop (in the UK 2007ish). It was tucked in with DVDs and cost £1.50. IIRC it had a barcode where the Export only section was. I the first thing I did was to turn it into an ISO image and put the disc somewhere safe...

I remember opening it up and finding this menu... that was just a link to the GW website 😞

Rick Meints' newest 'Out of the Suitcase' post talks about Origins '78, which took place Ann Arbor, in his home town. Alas, 12 year old Rick had no clue about the convention, which saw the debut of RuneQuest, the first RPG to be published by The Chaosium, a quirky 3 person company from the Bay Area.

"Kay-OH-see-um" or "Kay-OS-ee-um"? In his new Out of the Suitcase post, Chaosium president Rick Meints shares an old ad that talks about how to correctly say the company's name (TLDR - there is no right way, but Rick does share how Greg Stafford himself pronounced it).

Chaosium president Rick Meints's newest 'Out of the Suitcase' post looks at the advertisements the Avalon Hill game company ran for RuneQuest in their premier house magazine The General.

Including this ad for "RuneQuest Slayers", in the second-to-last issue of the magazine.

In his latest 'Out of the Suitcase' post, Chaosium president Rick Meints talks about company founder Greg Stafford's love of painting minies, and shares a previously unknown to him piece Greg wrote for Ral Partha Miniatures in 1986, brought to his attention by fellow TTRPG historian Shannon Appelcline.

Up until last Sunday, Chaosium collector extraordinaire Rick Meints thought he knew everything there was to know about the modest line of RuneQuest minies released by Martian Metals in the 1980s. Then he made a surprising discovery... read about in his latest Out of the Suitcase post:
