Soul Sight - how long to process the incoming data?

Recommended Posts

Soul Sight (common Rune Spell):

" allows the recipient to see both the POW aura of the living and to magically know the actual current magic points of other things and creatures, including the amount devoted to currently in-effect spells (such as defensive spells)."  (plus a little more...)

If you get ambushed by many enemies, that's a lot of information to process.  What's a good limit on how much information you get per round?

I guess it's the same as any other information. What colour are their clothes. What runes do they have tattooed visibly. What weapons do they have hanging off their belts. Who is giving the orders. Do they have mud on their shoes. Who looks like they might be about to cast a spell. You can see any and all of that at a glance, but you can only process so much of it. Assimilating and acting on this mundane information is as difficult to codify into game mechanics as Soul Sight.

On the other hand, I'd be inclined to be quite generous, especially if the character is fairly smart. I'd be quite comfortable doing a Sherlock-style slo-mo walkthrough. They have spent a Rune Point on it, after all. They should get their money's worth, especially as they are not getting much tangible like a bunch of damage or healing.

Agree, it's just a case of watching. You can probably see auras and runes, and connect them to spells.

It was only 20L...

My first thought is - use the regular SR ranks, replacing SIZ & DEX with POW & INT, and add 3 for re-focussing on each aspect (POW, MPs, current spells) . Obviously, per person, not the whole group (Although, if they're together, you'd see the POW aura of them. After that you'd have to focus individually.

So, in 10 seconds, you could take it all in of an individual, or have a good idea of the POW of a group close together.

Spells in use take longer (as some are very localised, and others over a greater area, and then there's layering...)
