Over in the unofficial Chaosium discord David gave Berserker, Fear, Dismiss and Summon Fire Elemental (all sizes), Shield, and Summon Underworld Demon (all sizes) as his special spells. I seem to remember him having Humor as well, though I don't remember where I heard that.

Edit: Just went and rechecked some things and can confirm that Shargash doesn't have Humor. My bad, I was conflating speculation with the facts. Humor is probably a special spell from Talor if I had to guess, maybe he'll get a writeup like Hrestol's with the Invisible God cult.

Does anyone know what rune spells Shargash will have in the RQG cults book? Based on the Red Book of Magic I’m guessing Summon Demon is one of them. Anyone with an early copy know the others?

Ceteris paribus, the RuneQuest: Gods of Glorantha advanced copy offers the following:

Berserker, Dismiss Fire elemental (S & M), Summon Fire Elemental (S & M), Summon Demon (S, M, &L).

Alkor gives Cremate Dead, Artmal gives True Sword, Anilla (Shargash's sister)gives Absorption, Hastatus gives True Spear,  Lodril gives Fire Spear, Oslira gives Bless Crops (Rice), Yelm gives Sunspear.

I thought he had Crush as well, he does in my games.

I wondered if he would have some kind of mace-focused spell, since I thought that was his main weapon. As a house rule or sub cult I might do True Mace.

Very interesting! I wonder if they’ll get into the regional variations like Tolat or Vorthan. Outside of Dara Happa, he probably wouldn’t have Alkor, Hastatus, or Oslira as associated cults. But I also wouldn’t think they acknowledge Artmal in Dara Happa, right?

I consider Shargash to be the regional variation, with Tolat being well known to the God Learners as a sort of ubiquitious opponent - through the Lopers, in Teshnos, in Pamaltela. Dara Happa appears to be ignorant of the Red Sword of Tolat. Somehow, Tolat is the twin of Annilla in the monomyth.

There are no rune Lords only initiates and priests. The cult teaches weapon (cultural) and seeing as Hastatus is the divine spear of Shargash and gives True Spear, that would make the spear his weapon of choice.

Alkor and Tolat are subcults, the others are associates. Alkor's runes are :20-power-stasis::20-element-fire::20-power-death:.

Yeah that is a little surprising. Although, I guess I could understand how Shargash of Alkoth is not a martial cult specifically. More of a “Lord of Demons and the Underworld.” But Tolat and Vorthan from Fronela feel very warlike to me.

I beg your pardon?

My mistake, no Rune Lords so not martial in that way, only initiates and priests. Shargash is the celestial god of war, funeral pyres, and human sacrifice.

Considering RBoM lists it as a Darkness spell, apparently not

Shargash uses a Mace as a primary weapon, so he could have taken Crush from someone. True Maul works as well.

Ah well, we'll have to wait to see what he gets and then complain bitterly.

I've clearly missed this from somewhere, especially considering that one of his titles in GRoY is "the Wielder of the Skyspears".

I realise he's shown with a mace and spear in Pavis GtA:

and as Tolat in the Glorantha Sourcebook, he carries both. I had assumed it was a symbol of his rule of hell (mace as sceptre).

and course:

likely before he conquered Hell.

So what's the source for the mace?

Kinda surprised that Shargash has something from Artmal.

Enclosure ?

Indeed, p.35 'Early carvings and clay icons of Shargash show a large man with a club and a scowl.'

'...he appears raging through the clouds wielding thunderbolts and skyspears.'

p.38 Initiates are taught Mace. Followers of the Red Path are taught Mace and Spear.

p39 Destroyers of Shargash need to succed in tests of 5 skills in skills including 'Mace' and 'Other Waapon'

Yes Enclosure #1 (1997),

The Cult of Shargash by Pam Carlson & Martin Laurie, gives the cult skills as mace and spear, and gives divine magics of crush and Truespear.

Is there anything else that has origin of the mace?

Having worked on that with Pam and Martin and a few others, along with Greg, I think we largely worked off of GRoY (Shargash has his drums and drumsticks there) and Greg's Alkoth book.  I don't remember if there was something specifically that referenced a mace, but it seemed to fit at the time.

Was just checking through the GRoY.  The only mace there - the Mace of Authority - is wielded by Shargash or even from Alkoth.  The nearest in the Thunderbolt.

Apparently Artmal is Tolat's nephew and together they defeated Umath, and Tolat gifted the Red Sword to Artmal so Artmal gives his worshippers True Sword.
