Spirit spell Solace

Is there are any actual none roleplaying uses for this spell? Does it work against Demoralize of Fear perhaps? Or is it flavoring only to be assigned to NPC Chalana Arroys?

It might counter inspirations from adverse passions, like fear, hate, etc.

Not that your ordinary mook will use those, but certain NPCs might.

Or it might keep your fellow party member from becoming a patient again for such negative passions.

Maybe it's a quick way to "cure" an adventurer who has fallen to Despair or Runic Turmoil after a fumbled Passion or Rune augment roll?

Looks at the JC MotM series.. I might allow that to temporarily suppress the effects of a Madness Spirit.

It's from Xiola Umbar, so would likely be only found with her cultists and associated cults (Kyger Litor & Zorak Zorak). It's not restricted so a shaman could teach it if they could find the appropriate spirit. Chalana Arroy shaman would likely have it or a charm containing it.

Now that passions are in the forefront of the game, this is a useful spell for dealing with some aspects of them. The keyword here is mental distress, so the effects of failing or fumbling relevant passions or runes would be an obvious choice. It wouldn't remove the penalties, but would allow the adventurer to function normally. Likewise if a family member dies and the Love (family or individual) success, it would likewise remove the distress for 24 hours. As usual, this spell deals with a situational moment, that the GMs and players should cooperate over.

If it's a fellow PC is roleplaying out the angst, let them do it until you think it's enough before you pop Solace on them to get them to calm down. No-one wants their 
soliloquy interrupted.

Let me rephrase... It should stop people acting irrationally when such things are attacking. Not necessarily any particular chaotic powers, just regular fear/terror.
