Magic & Sorcery

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking for some time and I've been playing BRP (in the form of Call of Cthulhu) for about five years.

I've recently decided I want to use it for a ancient world style fantasy game and I was wondering if there are any products, campaign handouts, etc. which add spells to the Magic and Sorcery power systems found in the yellow BRP book.

I'm slightly more interested in Sorcery than Magic.

Thanks in advance

Check the Bronze Grimoire : it offers new spells for Elric! and should be compatible with Sorcery.

As for Magic, you might find things in old editions of Drakar och Demoner, if you speak Swedish...

Or you could check any version of RuneQuest Sorcery, which is (despite the name) a more complex version of Magic.

Spirit/Battle magic from the older RQ3 is close to the Sorcery system. Some of the Call of Cthulhu spells could be easily used in the Sorcery system as well.

For Magic, the Classic Fantasy monograph is a wonderful resource.

The Chaosium monograph: The Green has lots of new Sorcery based spells in it ( the author lurks on this very forum ! ) and is a pretty fine setting supplement as well.

Already mentioned is Classic Fantasy which has more Magic spells in it than you can shake a stick at.

Likewise if you can find the old Elric supplement there is a lot of good stuff in there as wel.

Thanks for the replies. I would prefer ones which are still in print as they are easier to locate.

I'm not sure why I didn't think of converting Call of Cthulhu spells over.

Edit: I'm aware that some of these -- like the Green and Classic Fantasy -- are in print.

Though there has been a bit of delay recently, I'm nearly finished with the work on a Spellbook for BRP that will contain new spells, rituals, items and optional mechanics for every BRP magic system so far, including the ones in the main rulebook and Basic Magic (or RQ3). Hopefully it will push some buttons for you!
