Zulfikar Zaban
Back in May I ran the "Edge of Darkness" scenario and at the time, the final showdown in the farmhouse felt to me like a total bomb. Nobody was saying anything and I kept rolling really bad when rolling for how much sanity was lost. I could only ever seem to roll 1-3 and so I couldn't make anybody run out of the house and I tried throwing a racoon down from the attic, but it didn't last long enough. I certainly should have gone harder as a Keeper, but tonight my players told me they loved it and my player Larry said he was genuinely terrified. They were just really tired because they stayed up too late the night before and one of them was really hungover. I feel re-validated in my ability to be a Keeper:) I'm excited to soon buy some more Call of Cthulhu stuff! klecser
I'm so glad you ended up getting some relieving feedback! Communication at the table is one of the hardest things. It really requires us to be vulnerable. I work really hard to assure my players that I'm not going to get offended if they don't like something because I want to grow. Let us know if we can help you select the next product that is right for you!

I just bought the new 40th Anniversary Keeper Rulebook and the Keeper Tips book which I have started and it's really inspiring. I have some money coming soon and plan on getting a bunch of Call of Cthulhu Books. I'm trying to decide though, I want to get either: Gateways to Terror, Dead Lights, Doors to Darkness, or some other tome with some short scenarios (1-3 sessions) to lead into Masks of Nyarlethotep. I might also get something else in between before jumping into something so big. Amy advice would be appreciated, thank you. Aerinyes
Something I've been doing for the past couple years now -- start a game world calendar, track the actual passage of time within the game framework. It takes a bit of work, sometimes you have to make adjustments to the scenarios to fit within the framework, but for players that get attached to their characters it works quite well. It allows players to change characters for a scenario or two so that their primary can rest, recuperate, regain some sanity... If you plan to run Masks of Nyarlathotep, don't forget there is a four year gap between the prologue in Peru and the main campaign. Running one-shots in between lets your players beef up for the main campaign, and you can then not pull any punches with a clear conscience...

DamonJynx
I'm new to being a Keeper as well. It's always good to get some positive feedback, particularly when you're learning a new system. The guys I've played with keep coming back, so even though I might feel I'm butchering the scenario, I must be doing the important stuff right! At the moment we're playing The Disintegrator from Pulp before we embark on A Cold Fire Within and all 3 players right near the end are suffering bouts of madness...
