MOB
A time of social niceties, grand balls, romantic intrigues and disappointments. Twisted horrors Have lain dormant for centuries now seek to burst forth into England. The latest release for the award-winning tabletop horror game, Call of Cthulhu, releases worldwide today, allowing players to expand their game to the Regency-era of England, made famous by the novels of Jane Austen. REGENCY CTHULHU includes new rules for creating Regency-era Investigators, along with new skills and occupations unique to this slice of history. The book also introduces a brand new mechanic to Call of Cthulhu: Reputation. Much like Sanity and Luck, Reputation is a fluctuating statistic that measures a character’s standing amongst others in high society, and will rise and fall during play. A detailed primer on the fictional English town of Tarryford gives a beginning Keeper everything they need to use the town as a setting for their Call of Cthulhu games in both 1813 and 1913. REGENCY CTHULHU also contains two scenarios designed to introduce players to the Regency-era. The scenarios can be played as one-off games, or used as the foundation for an ongoing campaign. Regency Cthulhu: Dark Designs in Jane Austen’s England is a historical sourcebook for Call of Cthulhu. Inside, you’ll find: Details on Regency-era England (1811–1820). Rules for creating Regency-era investigators, along with new period-appropriate skills and occupations. A detailed primer on the fictional town of Tarryford, for use as a campaign setting in both 1813 and 1913. Two scenarios with handouts and maps, designed toi ntroduce players to the Regency era and the mysteries of Tarryford. New rules for character Reputation and Estates, as well as Regency-era equipment and weapons. WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING “If you’re seeking the thin whisper of air between two hovering hands in an open ballroom but aren’t afraid to find a writhing tentacle reaching out for you instead, Regency Cthulhu is for you.” — OnePaigeRPG “[...]the world of strict etiquette, teas and reputation as top currency as an interesting, refreshing experience.” — Adam Waskiewicz, Polter.Pl “Sleep, or repose that deserved the name of sleep, was out of question. That… in which her disturbed imagination had tormented her on her first arrival, was again the scene of agitated spirits and unquiet slumbers.” — Jane Austen Edited November 13, 2022 by MOB 5
lenardg
The character sheet at the end of the book (pdf) seems rather blurry. Is that intentional? Looks as if it is a bad quality jpg. The text is selectable, so where could be the problem?
lenardg
There seems to be some problem with some fonts in the main book. Apart from the above mentioned character sheet problem, there are others: page 26: A brief introduction to the regency era is also blurry and bad looking. However, the same page taken from the handouts PDF looks good. This pixely-blurry thing is only in the main book only. page 87: Handout: Long 2, main book version looks pixely-blurry, handout version is crisp and ok I did not check every single handout yet, but seems to apply to all of them. The main text in the book is crisp and high quality, but all the extras seem low quality. Tested/viewed using an iPad and also using Adobe Reader on Windows, same result. Could you please fix so that the rulebook has also good quality fonts for every page?
Mike M
Ok - thanks - I've passed on your feedback to our layout team. They will look into it.
SunlessNick
Is anyone else tempted to move either Tarryford or Totburgh so they're built on the same place? Edited November 17, 2022 by SunlessNick
Moonesia
Do you have plans to develop a short scenario for conventions? The ones in the book are a bit long for a oneshot demo. Thanks!

There are clear artifacts on basically every image, even in the elements of the layout design. Every image looks blurry and over compressed. For example on page 9 even a simple fector image has a sheen of artifacts on it. It looks terrible on a 12.9" iPad Pro in Goodreader. I know it's a struggle to balance a PDF that doesn't bog down low-end devices, but this is a bit absurd and looks much worse than every other Chaosium PDF I have, to the point of being distracting. Thanks Mike, still seeing some very ugly scaling artifacts particularly on the silhouettes on pg 25, pg 9. The map before the introduction is very blurry. Handouts are borderline unreadable. All dramatically worse than the print version. This is "CHA23179_-_Regency_Cthulhu-v2.pdf (46.44 MB)"
