Balastors Barracks - possibly some spoilers

One for the old RQ grognards amongst us. back in the days of ancient history and RQ2 there was a supplement called balastors barracks.  In it there was a reference to a male hero named Balastor and " his earth axe regiment "

Now when we tend to think of earth cults and axes Babeester Gor is pretty much what comes to mind - no boys allowed.

so are there any earth cult deities/ hero cults that allow male worshippers and have axes as their primary weapons ?

Balastor's Barrack's is still on sale (original, pdf & pod). Balastor was a rune lord-priest of Pavis, and Pavis is associated with Earth, Stasis, Harmony, and Man.

So yes, Pavis (runes are the same in the upcoming prosopaedia).

I figured Pavis for the earth connection but was unsure about the axes. The Pavis write up in Pavis and the Big Rubble. mentions great axe training at 1/2 price for initiates, but also mentions 1 handed hammer attack for free for both lay and initiate.

because of that I've always felt that 1 handed hammer was more of a cult weapon than the axe if that makes sense.  - so  just wondered if the axe connection came from a different cultic or mythological link.

So, is posible to be a rune lord of Pavis even as he is a city God?

In the RQ2 rules, it was theoretically possible to be a priest, lord or lord-priest of any cult, while later rules have limited lords to more martially inclined cults. Given though, the above mention that Pavis' cult has an interest in axe and hammer fighting skills, I would assume that you would be able to have Pavic runelords under the RQG system, and that this would probably not be a unique feature of Pavis specifically, just limited to places where the city god/wyter are similarly martial. Orlanth is the city god of Whitewall, afterall.
