99c for the next 9 days – Basic Roleplaying's 'Big Gold Book'

BGB - Front

Apropos of nothing 🤔... we've made Basic Roleplaying aka 'The Big Gold Book' only 99 cents on DriveThruRPG (normally $21.95)*.

brp-bgb-back-cover.jpg

At some point, almost every gamemaster wants to create their own Mythic World. That's what the Basic Roleplaying System (BRP) is all about! It is simple, fast, and elegant, using a skill-based percentile system. Combat is fast and deadly, and with a strong focus on non-combat skills that some game systems are challenged to support. Players roll percentile dice against the Gamemaster-led opponents, or even themselves.

At the core, most Chaosium RolePlaying games use a variation of the Basic RolePlaying System, which started with RuneQuest. Call of Cthulhu, StormBringer, SuperWorldPendragon, and others (including, most recently Rivers of London) followed.

So, if you want to create your own Mythic World and leverage a proven system that is the backbone of some of the most successful games in RolePlaying history, look no further!

*We'll keep it that price until the end of DriveThruRPG's current 'New Year - New Game' sale (ends January 19th).

Holy crap! Too bad I already own this!

For 99 cents, despite already owning it in multiple forms, it was worth it to guarantee its in my DTR library. Also, means I have official PDFs of both the original 2008 and 2011 revisions… I can’t conceive of why I might need them, but I at least have them…

There are two versions of the PDF once you buy this, the first (significantly smaller) one is the latest (CHA2020-BRP_rulebook-dtrpg.pdf).

Looks like it got a rebuild some time last year so it's worth picking up in this form even if you already have a PDF from somewhere else. Easier to me to pay that ¢99 than to search through my Chaosium.com orders on the off chance that Chaosium have updated it on their site...

Basic Roleplaying aka 'The Big Gold Book' has rocketed from Platinum to ADAMANTINE Best Seller in less than 24 hours! Wonder if that's some sort of DriveThruRPG record?

...might have something to do with our 400 page #TTRPG toolkit being only 99c (for a limited time – normally $21.95). If you're looking for a highly versatile RPG system that's intuitive and easy, and which you can apply to any setting, come check it out!

TYVM for noticing this, and mentioning it here!

IIRC I have managed to buy the BGB pdf twice already... looks like this'll make it thrice.

How do you know which one is which? Open question despite quoting Phil

Code 2020 is the original file; 2026 is the update.  I bought mine from DriveThru years ago, so when I go to the link in the first post, I’m offered the opportunity to download either or both versions.

Thanks, then I have the update, or do I?

 Now, I am confused...

Hey, @Dustin O'Chaosium... Have any insight to this riddle, Do I have the update, or no?

Still, great book, absolutely great. Of all the BR/p family books from all the decades I own this and the original free 8 (?) pager from the boxed RQ set are becoming my faves!

A fascinating synergy with the OGL1.1 panic...

Telling how it is excessive verbis

Both games are based on the world-renowned Basic Roleplaying System (BRP), which uses a roll-low D100 core mechanic that is simple to learn and teach (also currently available at DriveThruRPG for $0.99!).

These offers all end January 19th.

Bargains galore! :)

Call of Cthulhu was my other major specialist interest and I ran a massive campaign in that twice as well as RQ

However, my specialism was in taking published material and spending hours rewriting and extending it, so no possibility to recreate that

Mind you, I did write some original supporting material that was very detailed, much of which I can remember the broad ideas

Hmmm, ideas starting to emerge for down the line

Is there any way one can get the printed book if you are not in USA?

"Any way" covers quite a bit of territory...

If it's worth it to you to pay international shipping, you could have it shipped from USA to you.  This would be the easiest (but most-expensive).
( A user upthread cites $55 shipping cost to him... 😱    Your shipping costs may differ. )

I would call around to your local FLGS's:  it's possible there are still copies in the retail channel (or in the retail pipeline somewhere, available for FLGS to order from distributors).  It's also possible there are not (or at least, none in your region); but IMHO it's worth the effort to investigate.

Otherwise, AFAIK no:  not until Chaosium does another print-run (or opens POD orders) to repopulate their non-USA warehouses.
