Damage Reduction - how is it calculated ?

Posted (edited)

Dear fellow keepers

is there an official ruling on the order in which damage reduction effects are calculated ?

Taking the Star Vampire as an example

  • 4 points of armor
  • bullets deal halved damage

Example: A shot from a revolver doing 10 points of damage on our poor Star Vampire

Version 1  (armor first, reduction second):   10 damage  - 4 points armor , then halved  = 3 Points damage

Version 2  (reduction first, armor second:  10 damage halved, then reduced by 4 points of armor  = 1 Point damage

thank you

The armor examples (CoC7e p.112) and physics seem to lend themselves towards option #1. Example: If the Star Vampire were say, in a car, the armor provided by the car would almost certainly reduce the damage before the halving. Same with a mummy wearing a flack vest... standing behind a 1" thick wooden door.
