Don´t forget you also have to do it in inches, too.

Actually, let's please "forget" to do it in imperial too. After all, nobody important uses that system  any more 😉

Maybe we could add a code to each entry based on a central point ...that central point being THE DRAGONS EYE nest where all measurements are taken from , after all its is called dragon pass .As you can see attached an example ,and  I am going making a list with directions and cordinates(distance and direction) for obscure places (I could even write them directly in the book GASP HORROR!) being an old seaman we could use the 32 point compass and how many centimeters outwards from center point (dragons eye) it is.

So for.... example where the hell is GIANT BONES a dragon newt city? well its in stinking forest and its location marker would be 15NNE i.e 15 cm NNE direction from dragons eye.

I do hope the people who made such a nice book are listening;)

I attach flower camp location from north vale of flowers as example so tiny and hidden ...please please use contrasting text or back shading.

"So me hearties it be onwards for adventure at apple lane (5SEbS) southeast by south mister spee !!!" arghhhh  holds up the magnifying glass to his one good eye and strains to see the location "ArGHHHHHH so TINY!"

Ps

Chaosium runequest team  have not contacted me back about all this yet ;( rather sad sniff

I have entertained the idea of a universal Gloranthan coordinate system for purposes of putting Gloranthan knowledge into a geographical information system.

Gloranthan has a natural zero coordinate - the center of Magasta's Pool. Magical power lines (straight hexmap allocations) indicate that Kero Fin ought to be due north of that, and quite likely the (former) City of Wonders, too.

Practically, you would not want to start a (local) coordinate reference in a place a quarter of the world away, and with negative coordinates for items west of that, which is why map reference systems tend to use something as "false northing" to put all coordinates into a positive range. For a Gloranthan world map, that would be the southwestern corner somewhere off Slon. (But then Slon is a floating piece of the world that is in the progress of being pulled into its old position to align to the western edge of the world, and between Jrustela and Umathela, to start "repairing" the Godtime waste of Somelz, with surface coordinates about to change.)

Anyway, such a universal Gloranthan coordinate system would have four digit kilometers for anything in Dragon Pass, around 4000 from the western edge and about 6000 something from the southern edge if one arbitrarily sets Magasta's Pool (the former Spike) at 4000/4000.

Unlike our Roundworld, there is little in the way of projection for the surface of the Lozenge to keep in mind (except when mapping Glorantha onto Real World maps for size comparisons, where latitude may give weird results if you place Genertela north or south or directly on the 48 states USA map.

Local areas where reality is folded in weird ways might defy this absolute coordinate system, though - e.g. the Haraborn valley, or the highly changeable portion of Dorastor between the two towers that mark the start and the end of the Kartolin's Pass route (and which don't show at all on the maps in the Guide). Hidden Greens and Hidden Castles exist and may insert themselves into topography obeying the absolute coordinate system, creating areas of alternate coordinates in between a set of coordinates. (A similar method could be applied for the fictional Mythago Wood, which could be mapped on a bubble surface with a rather small circular rim intersecting with outside topography, and no defined extent how far you can walk before approaching the outer border region again.)

Certain portions of the surface world float on the ocean - the aforementioned Slon, and the floating island of Kylerela. These would have their internal reference system that could be mapped onto the general coordinate system when the area is moved. Something similar might have occurred to western Fronela.

Certain portions have been removed from the Surface World, leaving an alternative topography behind (the Red Vadeli Isles instead of Brithos in the Brithos Fog, and portions of Fronela changing during the Ban.

Yes  a world wide map location system would be wonderful BUT (and its a big one) ...how many players ever even leave the genertela  and go elsewhere in the world ?(hands up if you have )

What about pamaltela? Very few ,I would imagine, even know of this southern continent  and hardly any would/will visit it ingame .Of course it's vital to have a documented and mapped world but 95% of the world will not be used in most games .

I have had few long-running characters in other people's Gloranthan games, but I did get to play in weird places in convention games, some of those in RuneQuest, others in Hero Wars/Quest/Worlds. No personal Eastern experience beyond Melib, yet (unless I count the migration of a character concept from a different setting into Glorantha, which would have part of his previous history in an involuntary expedition to Fanzai south of Kralorela, and messing with some draconic crown artifact there rather than in the other setting).

Before the RuneQuest trademark returned to Chaosium from The Design Mechanism, Lawrence Whitaker worked on an epic campaign following Harrek's Circumnavigation, of which I got to play the initial stages of the Teshnos episode at a convention.

The Sandy Petersen campaign whose log was kept by Jeff Okamoto went all the way into Pamaltela.

Simon Bray and Martin Hawley have done extensive work and gaming in Fonrit, including the multiplayer freeform Harem Nights which I had the pleasure to play in.

There is a four volume series of scenarios and setting material for the East Isles on the Jonstown Compendium.

One seriously underused portion of the Gloranthan setting is the Outer World. The only scenarios which really touch slightly on that potential are the ones that travel the Celestial River up from the edge of the world (the Boat Planet Quest and the Eleven Lights Quest, both for different editions of HeroQuest). But then the Outer World would be outside of the mappable world.

Hey ho tired of waiting for chaosium customer service RiG guys ..

Does anyone know where I can buy a copy of the map or a download a copy of JUST the map in good quality hi-res pdf ? it doesnt seem to be available anywhere on any online shop service.

There are some real hard copy map options but most cost like 48 euros and I just need a map I can zoom in to which has a good resolution so I can read the tiny text , I don't need the shower curtain...plus someone told me redbubble are untrustworthy .

I'm assuming you've contacted them at their customer services email address? Because it isn't their job to haunt these forums, drawn ineluctably like hungry ghosts to the sound of complaints and queries.

You can't. Chaosium only sell it in PDF format as part of the Dragon Pass book. I'd be very surprised if they changed that plan. If you bought your hardcopy book from Chaosium or through a Bits-and-Mortar registered retailer, then you will already have access to the full PDF as a free download. If you bought it elsewhere - then I guess that's an unfortunate lesson learned the hard way, and your only way to get the zoomable hi-res PDF now will be to purchase the book in digital format from Chaosium.

I have both the hard copy maps from Redbubble (perfectly trustworthy in my own experience) and from All Rolled Up (ditto). But the digital PDF is definitely the best version, and the one I refer to most often.

You are incorrect about the chaosuim spirits of overwatch..they have contacted me because of this post and have given mensome good tips and advice and info.

You can check whether a shop is in "Bits-and-Mortar" here: https://bits-and-mortar.com/store-locator

Faraos Cigarer is part of the scheme. If you provide the shop with your email address and your receipt, they should be able to send your details through to B&M and give you access to the PDF. Ideally, the shop should ask you for your email address at the time of purchase, but my own experience is they frequently don't.

They are indeed lovely people, and it's great that they've been in touch. But relying on posts on a forum to get their attention is probably not something they'd recommend. This isn't a formal customer support forum.

Just to clarify, as the site admin I am keeping an eye on the site. But if you want my attention, please use @Scotty to ping me. I haunt the site with my fan account @David Scott, and so often spot things that need doing.

If you have specific queries about products please contact customerservice@chaosium.com. Please note that timezones are a thing for us as I'm on GMT, Dustin, CDT and other range across the US, Europe and Australia.

Hi rez map excellent.

Hurray! Yes, the PDF is the best version, really.

I think a lot of people are actually not aware of the best ways to buy these things.

If I can toot my trumpet briefly, I try to advise a little on this in my Buyer's Guide (which includes links to other maps, map comparisons and much more):
