MOB Posted November 1 Posted November 1 (edited) 25 years ago this week our friends at A Sharp first released King of Dragon Pass. Originally a boxed CD, it was a truly unique and innovative combination of narrative and strategy games, bringing the mythic world of Glorantha – best known from the RuneQuest TTRPG – to life on a computer screen. In the years that followed the game came into its own with the advent of tablets and mobile phones, and today you can download an updated version for iOS, Windows, or Android. Audiences will find the game just as compelling and playable today as then. Designed by David Dunham, Greg Stafford and Robin D. Laws, King of Dragon Pass was truly ground-breaking at the time, and has certainly withstood the test of time as numerous reviews and retrospectives and Best Of lists over the years attest. To mark the 25th anniversary King of Dragon Pass is currently 55% off at the App Store and also discounted on Google Play. And if you hadn’t heard, its "spiritual successors", Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind and Six Ages: Lights Go Out, are also available on Steam, GOG, and the iOS App Store! On Greg Stafford's passing in October 2018, 'King of Dragon Pass' and 'Six Ages' creator David Dunham reflected on the long and productive creative partnership and friendship shared with the original creator of Glorantha. John Biles Posted November 1 Posted November 1 King of Dragon Pass is what enabled me to finally grok Glorantha and it's an incredible game and remains an amazing introduction to the world. 2 Quote
ViktorD100 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 I remember when I first saw King of Dragon Pass. I was a 16 year old obsessed with roleplaying games of any kind, and I'd found a pile of Avalon Hill RuneQuest books for 30 bucks. I got curious to see if any video games set in Glorantha existed and found KoDP for 50% off. I took the deal, I played it, got frustrated, tried it again a couple of times over the next 6 years, came back to it a year ago and I can say with some certainty now, both King of Dragon Pass and Six Ages capture the essence of Glorantha beautifully in their own unique ways. Happy 25th anniversary to all the Kings and Queens of Dragon Pass! 3 Quote
hemulaformis Posted November 4 Posted November 4 If anyone has been wanting to try one of the titles in this series, but doesn't have it in their budget, feel free to send me a message. I'd be glad to help someone else share in the fun and to hopefully encourage another sequel to come to fruition. AlHazred Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Wait, it's on Android? And for $9.99? ... That might actually be in-budget... (My daughter is coming up on 2 years old next March, we don't really have a games budget right now...) 1 Quote ROLAND VOLZ Running: 1870s Mashup Hero System | Playing: nothing | Planning: D&D 5E/OSE/Fantasy Hero Home Game D&D is an elf from Tolkien, a barbarian from Howard, and a mage from Vance fighting monsters from Lovecraft in a room that looks like it might have been designed by Wells and Giger. - TiaNadiezja
