Craft your own worlds of legend! QuestWorlds, the setting-agnostic roleplaying game from Chaosium is coming February 2025!

Stay tuned for more in the coming months.

QuestWorlds is a rules-light RPG system that facilitates beginning play easily, and resolves conflicts in play quickly.* It features an abstract, conflict-based, resolution method and scalable, customizable, character descriptions. Designed to emulate the way characters in fiction face and overcome challenges, it is suitable for a wide variety of genres and play styles.

Questworlds logo*These rules originated in 2000 as Hero Wars by Robin Laws. A revised edition was published as HeroQuest in 2003, and a new second edition in 2009. In 2015 HeroQuest Glorantha by Robin Laws and Jeff Richard set the HeroQuest rules in Greg Stafford’s world of Glorantha.

QuestWorldsreleased as an SRD in 2020, once again makes the rules engine generic, suitable for play across a myriad of genres.

Please note: the Questworlds Open Game License for use of the Questworlds Roleplaying system differs from the Wizards Open Game License and has different terms and conditions.

I'm very interested in this but I have a couple questions...

Is this a new set of mechanics that will adapt to various milieux?

Is is a d100 version and, if so, how is that different from BRUGE?

In the original QW boxed set, there was a wonderful map of a continent, Kanos. Will that be in the new title?

[I hold no hope for the reprisal of the Panaches of Flynn and hippie smiths of Vrang2Jomang 😆]

This is the latest incarnation of the Hero Wars/HeroQuest line - I think some streamlining of mechanics, but otherwise that's the game system.

It is not d100.

This is the game system noted above, not a re-release of the old BRP QuestWorld set.

The RQ2 Boxed set was "QuestWorld".

This new non d100 narrative RPG named "QuestWorlds", is based on the "HeroQuest RPG" (not to be confused with the old and new "HeroQuest" boardgame).

Nice! Glad to see this is finally seeing the light of day.

I have HQ 1 & 2 and Mythic Russia, can't wait to get this new one. Believe I used to have HW as well, but somehow lost it over the years.

Im really exited about this system.
Hope there will be more info about this in the Blog soon.

But a question:

Will there be more releases to this system (for example setting books), or is it a one-book release only?

If there will be more releases could you say something about that?

Supposedly, there will be more. No dates, and plans can change (which is entirely reasonable).

As of this writing the extras in the linked post (it gets updated from time to time) are:

  • Worlds & Quests: howto + example genre packs & adventures — Ian Cooper
  • Genre Packs — various authors
  • The Dragonrise: offstage material from The Eleven Lights — Ian Cooper
  • Fonrit: setting book — Ian Cooper

It will be published in print as well as in PDF, right?

I don't believe this has been officially confirmed. I think an initial POD release via DriveThruRPG is what we should be hoping for / expecting. I'd certainly like to hear something with more clarity though e.g. if it's POD, how likely is a proper print run, as I'm probably like many people in that I won't want to buy it twice. I think the communication around the POD scenarios for Rivers of London wasn't as clear as it could be, to cite a recent example (I believe these will be collected into a proper printed book, but knowing that might have affected any decision to buy the PODs).

Aside from the case files for Rivers of London where they are doing POD, I fully expect QuestWorlds to be available in pdf and print like all other Chaosium game systems.
