I'm just learning about spirits of reprisal, and have a question. Can you fight them with spirit combat? It seems like something a Shaman might be tempted to do, if the spirits beset someone in the party.

It depends on the nature of the spirit. Some of them aren't spirits - eg Chalana Arroy just stops you recovering from acute forms of disease you catch. While Lhankor Mhy's Brain Flayer just reduces your INT by one every four weeks. You can't resist as you are still connected to the god. This is different from Ban (RBM 15).
