Lloyd Dupont Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) I am trying to make a BRP version of my monsters. I guess I could reuse existing stats block (particularly when the Big Book of Monsters surprised me as even having Shadow Demons in it!) Anyway I see it has 71% with claws and 74% with bit. Uh? Where does that come from? I mean in Mythras I would do DEX+STR+40% for example (or +50~70% for more "Expert level" monsters), but what about BRP? I know I can just decide the skill value. I tend to often come up with NPC that have 70% in all useful skill pertinent to their skillset. But, this time, I am trying to come-up with a consistent formulas that produce reasonable results 🙂 Edited December 22, 2024 by Lloyd Dupont Quote
Atgxtg Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 (edited) Traditionally BRP rated skills by how, uh, skilled someone was. That is there was some sort of proficiency scale Something along the lines of: 10% Unskilled 30% Novice, Hobbyist 50% Professional with some experience. 70% Expert 90% Master  Note that the about is a rough scale (except at the high end) and the actual values vary a bit from one BRP game to another. Most BRP games don't add up stats to get skill values. ElfQuest and Worlds of Wonder: Magic World being the notable exception. Some BRP games did use category modifiers which added to skill scores but these were in the format of +1%/-1% per so many points above/below 10. In some BRP games there were caps on some of these to prevent big strong creatures from automatically mastering some skills due to their characteristic scores. Lloyd Dupont Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 I guess I will just more or less keep skill values I have then! ^_^Â Unless they radically different, yet interesting ideas in the rulebooks. Quote
