We'd hope 500+ years of living and dying, building and striving here would make us natives. ;D At some point, common sense would dictate that the term "Indians" would be sufficiently descriptive since even members of the assorted "Native American/First Nations" tribes use it themselves. That's coming from an inhabitant of Indian Territory aka Native America aka Oklahoma. ;) Around here, "real" Indians prefer business suits to buckskins and probably have a master's degree in computer science, medicine, or law (paid for by all those tribal casinos).

ROFL. My favorite part of this is that if you go by the standard accepted version of history, there were several waves of immigration across the Alaska-Siberia land bridge and each wave came down conquering, slaughtering the men, "incorporating" the women and erasing the previous culture. Of course, the "first ones there" are the "real natives", but they have been so thoroughly wiped out and assimilated by multiple conquests, then you really cannot define "native" as "were here first" since those people are long gone.

So, "native american" really only means "the people who happened to be here when the Europeans showed up. Of course, along a similar vein, those Europeans would not be "Europeans" by the same definition since they are themselves the end result of multiple migrations wiping out previous cultures....

To get us a bit more back-on-topic...

Go over to Mongoose and grab "Land of Ice and Stone." You can adapt it to BRP (with a bit of work) or use Legend as-is (or Mythras).

Replace the glaciated setting with temperate, and use any decent tribal and/or anthro resources as your setting. Add an appropriate collection of relevant myth and folktales.

Run with it.

You can use GURPS Ice Age and GURPS Old West I suppose. They are easily adaptable to BRP (obviously). Altho I would love to see a setting where the Glorious Apache Nation clashed with dinosaur-riding Aztec's, with Spanish conquistadores thrown in for good measure.

What? I'm inventing a new genre here. Hmmm...…..ArrowPunk?

Needs work.

Some people think an Apache can't tell right from wrong. To those people I say, "Wrong one, and see what happens."

While it lacks the RPG rules elements, I would think a general history would cover most of the necessary information. Something aimed at the mass market, and middle school aged children seems like it would be particularly handy. Something like this which allows one to pick and choose the areas of interest or just grab the whole set.

Ignore the Amazon price, based on experiences with other multi-volume sets like this you can find single volumes cheap at used books stores, ebay etc. You pay a premium for a complete set. There is a seller at Ebay with the complete set for $64.00 right now.

T-L books are easy as they have covered almost everything at some point, but I'm sure there are similar books sets from other publishers.

Add to the "low tech" game of your choice, and you are well on your way.

That sounds pretty cool, but I'm afraid the Aztecs had no dino-riders. All the dinosaurs are in the Amazon &c rainforests on towards the north coast of S.America, so it's THOSE tribes who had war-dinosaurs! 🤡

More seriously, I think a multi-layer game, with mostly-accurate historical/folkloric setting (maybe around 1100CE?) would be great///

PLUS a relatively high-fantasy layer that could "ride atop" the historic base, still based on the tribal tropes & memes (the way D&D is based mostly on Euro-Medieval tropes & memes)

and THEN a layer of gonzo whack, with dino-riders and anthromorphic animal-races and Atlanteans and fleets of Imperial War-Junks from Song-Dynasty China and etc etc etc...

<grandly and vaguely waves hand> "Make it so, Chaosium!"

Sounds like your describing Atlantis: The second age

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/120423/ATLANTIS-the-Second-Age?term=atlantis&test_epoch=0

It's not a d100 game but really good source campaign material for running an age of Atlantis game.

About 1,500 years ago the Nazca Indians created giant geometric pictures in the Peruvian desert that can only be seen from 200 feet in the air. One (totally unsupported) theory is that the Nazcas viewed their handiwork from hot air balloons. I can totally see a group of pre-Columbian Jules Vernes becoming untethered and drifting across the Americas and beyond.

Natives in the Amazon basin from about 450 BC added charcoal to the soil to increase the nutrient content for farming. Not just any charcoal, but biochar, a charcoal created through a specific process of heating material in an oxygen poor environment until it turns into a very dark, carbon rich charcoal.

Gasification is a process used to create wood gas (a flammable, lighter than air gas) and it produces a similar kind of charcoal as a by product. In the 1800s wood gas was found to be better than hot air for balloons. A related material and bi-product of making both wood gas and biochar is an oily tar like residue, which the Ancient Egyptians used for sealing boats and embalming bodies. All of these processes are fairly simple, and something that a modern tinkerer can do in their backyard with common materials available at a home improvement store.

The technology to make create an airtight envelope and a lighter than air gas to make functional balloons was at least theoretically possible 2500 years ago. Not saying that the Nazcas were using gas balloons to transport their war dinos, but it is feasable...

Damn. Everything under the sun.....what does a guy have to do, make a game about cyberpunk Inuits fighting the Canadian-French Empire whilst riding robo-moose and cyber-Kodiaks?

Cyber-Polar-bears.

Kodiaks are mounts for the Tlingit, Haida, etc.
