Future of Magic World?

Chaosiums Facebook page has a line indicating that Magic World WILL be available as a PDF / PoD. I have yet to see any statement regarding Advanced Sorcery (likely also covered, but that's not been stated) or the three or four unpublished Magic World titles that were in production.

The Philosophical Engine & Expanded Allegiance, my contribution to the Magic World Chronicler's Companion, won't be appearing in that book, if it ever does see publication.

well dang. Expanded Allegiance was one of my reasons for wanting it. What happened?

Your question, Chris, will be answered approximately at 00:00 of Thusday October 1st, 2015, Paris time. So not a long time to wait :)

Maybe not for you, but that's ages away in my time zone.

The short answer is that Chaosium sat on it for three years. Having a project done, but not published, for that amount of time is rough on the nerves. I grew tired of waiting on Chaosium to work its issues out, and when it became clear that MW was no longer a priority, I withdrew the submission.

However, I really, really want the project to get into people's hands. I'm really keen an seeing what people do with it. So, to that end, I've been looking for another means of getting The Philosophical Engine out into the world.

My guess though is that it will either be based on RQ6 (the book is apparently being called BRP Essentials) or on the modified version of BRP in Cthulhu. I would be surprised if it were BGB based.

SDLeary

Basing it on the modified CoC would put me right off it. Keep that stuff as options if you must...

While I appreciate this sentiment, I have an agreement with my spouse that writing work I do is not disseminated for free.

Cuz GOD FORBID you ever disappointed your spouse. :)

Its funny, but there's been a few rumblings recently about independent BRP inspired gaming.  Then Paolo's Revolution popped up.  Makes me wonder if we might see more independent companies surface.

I'm no fan of corporate D&D but I do really like the stuff that's come out of the OSR... the DIY attitude and unhinged variations people have come up with. Not that BRP has anywhere near that sort of fanbase but even a spark of it would be a rallying cry I could get behind.

If it's anything like my "agreement" with my spouse, if you break it then you don't get to write any more RPG supplements.

Never underestimate the power of a spouse to stop you doing things you enjoy ...

Given the topor that MW has entered* I think this is a great opportunity for us - the fans - to take some ownership. I was thinking about setting up a fansite for the game and look towards building our idea setting/game.

Is there any interest in this?

Marcus

* Given the fact that MW was created *because* Chaosium didn't have a complete fantasy game, this makes some sense now RQ is back in the fold.
