"Secrets of Japan" and martial arts

I am reading the 2005 supplement Secrets of Japan.
O
n page 67 (Scroll five: Section Three) I found a paragraph entitled Prerequisite Skills that ends with "More detailed rules for Japanese martial arts will be provided in a future book".
I'm curious to know what is the hinted book and what level of depth have these rules (if they exist).

I don't know, but the publishing company who publishes Cthulhu in Japan produced a book years ago called "The Burning of Mount Hiei" which I think it includes rules for martial arts and even mass combat, as it is based during the Sengoku period (16th century), with samurai, ninjas and warrior monks. Perhaps Chaosium is planning to publish that book?

Well, you could always look at two BRP books, The Celestial Empire, and Dragon Lines. CE is more historical, while DL is more Hong Kong movie. Both have quite a lot of martial arts styles, powers and rules that you can use in your Cthulhu games. Have fun!

Thanks for the informations.

Unfortunately for me The Burning of Mount Hiei and Cthulhu and Empire (another supplement that I found in my research) are only in Japanese and I do not expect to see new exotic-themed material in the next years (at most an announcement after Invictus 2ed and Gaslight 4ed ...).

The Celestial Empire is very interesting (my campaigns are very historical-oriented) and it support my idea that Chaosium should push more its BRP supplements as useful for CoC and RuneQuest too (maybe it's just my impression because I am Italian and in my country the Basic "does not exist").
I asked about martial arts just for curiosity but in the future I will try to get/browse a copy of The Celestial Empire.

You may also want to check the free partial preview for Rise of the Yōkai Koku, a supplement for Revolution D100 set at the time of the Sengoku Jidai, that Alephtar Games had circulated. The fully-fledged product wasn't funded 😞

Oooops I now realise you were specifically looking for Japanese Martial Arts-oriented skills, so disregard my previous message, as the free version available now does not contain any Martial Arts-related content.

As for your original post-- I had a discussion with Charlie Krank about Secrets of Japan back at the time when he was running Chaosium. He told me the author had provided him several lengthy manuscripts intended to complete the first book, but that he did not want to publish them because he thought 'there would be no interest' -- but then we all know about Charlie's business acumen 😞

Well, there used to be several very interesting Basic supplements published by Stratelibri.
