Archivist
[HeroQuest 2, p. 22] a hero w/ a 3W mastery with a -6 penalty has a target number of 17 I'm not clear why that's a 17. If you forget about the -6 penalty then they have to roll a 3 or under, and get a free bump up because of their Mastery (if it's not canceled). Wouldn't the -6 just reduce their target number to 1? Or does it eliminate the mastery. If that's the case, and I had 3W2, would it still reduce it to 17 or something else? Runeblogger
You need to count values including W as if they were 20s. In this way, a value of 3W means 23. 23-6=17. A value of 3W2 with a -6 penalty reduces the value to 17W. The free bump only happens after the actual roll is made, if any side has masteries remaining in their values. When I run games I generally get players to write down the whole numbers on their character sheets as the base value always changes with modifiers, augments, etc. We then do the mastery calculation afterwards if needed. 44 minutes ago, Archivist said: If that's the case, and I had 3W2, would it still reduce it to 17 or something else? 3W2 = 43, 43-6 =37, 37 = 17W 1 Quote ----- Search the Glorantha Resource Site: https://wellofdaliath.chaosium.com. Ian Cooper
It's an interesting observation about a point that may be unclear though. I always tend to explain mastery in the same way as David, think of 3W at 23, calculate the TN from modifiers etc. then figure out whether there are masteries in the conflict.
