Available short scenarios for RQG?

Prinz Slasar

Recommended Posts

So I've got the RQG & GSB PDFs plus The Quickstart in printed format with "The Broken Tower".

Because the adventure has certainly been played by most people already, I'm looking for other scenarios.

The challenge, however, is to find scenarios that can only be played with the previously published RQG stuff.

Does anyone have tips for such short adventures? It doesn't have to be an official scenario, I'm looking for fanmade stuff as well. Maybe some nice scenarios buried deep in the world wide web.

Thanks in advance!

Last year, we were teased a 2h demo scenario: Stealing the Eye

Stealing the Eye - Not only does the RuneQuest quickstart have a full adventure in it, but we have a shorter "demo". Tasked with stealing a giant jewel from the head of a statue, can the adventurer's quell the spirits and possible guardians to make their escape undetected? (2 hours 4 players).

Old White Dwarf magazines (in the UK) used to do RQ scenarios, they occasionally come up cheap on eBay

I believe prinz.slasar was specificaly looking for web available RQG scenarios, not very old and out of print scenarios 😁 ...

For talented people, Chaosium published great RQG guildelines for topics:

as well as advices & guidelines on how to present them:

Possibly, but any RQ2 scenario really is directly portable. Characteristics, strike ranks, location HP, weapon damage, etc are all usable directly. A few NPCs might have a skill or spell that's not in the new edition, and they won't have rune ratings or passions, but that's really about it. The main problem is most material on the web is for RQ3, which has different Strike Rank calculations, hit point/location, damage modifier calculations and such which is why I linked to an RQ2 scenario.

Check out the Runequest Glorantha Wiki for RQ links and resources. Any updates or contributions welcome!

Andrew Logan Montgomery just released "Rites of Passage", for RQG:

Orlanthi initiation rites!!! (That got your attention). Here is the first episode of my "Six Seasons in Sartar" campaign. Originally written for RQ2 25 years ago, I rewrote it for HeroQuest and now for RQG. There are also guidelines on how to convert it to either HeroQuest or 13th Age. It's a massive, deep dive into Heortling rites of passage, based on a lot of Greg Stafford's ideas and some of my own.

You really can't go wrong with Apple Lane and it's available as a cheap PDF (£2.95/$3.95)

https://www.chaosium.com/apple-lane-pdf/

Two fun scenarios, Gringle's Pawnshop and the Rainbow mounds. Easily relocated to other areas.

These are two of my favourite RQ scenarios that I've run for new players many times. Many produced memorable moments for the players. The village is going to be featured in RQG so rename it and move it. Much will have changed in the intervening years so don't worry about breaking the future version.

Sweet Is Revenge : A great RQ2 scenario by Dave Morris that would have been part of a Games Workshop supplement which was cancelled. It's non-Gloranthan but pretty easy to transplant.

I connected with Dave Morris, got his permission to convert to single-document docx and pdf.  both should already be in the RQ downloads.  See link.

I'd love to see Apple Lane, the follow up adventure they did for it (post Gringle) and something newer (1615) packed into a new supplement. Could be the best of both worlds for Chasoium too. The get to put out a new supplement which they already have half/most of written.

Oh yeah, and if you want really-well-done source material that's pretty easy to convert - https://www.lythia.com/ will blow you away.  It's Harn, so low-fantasy but still fundamentally d100.  But the amount of freebie adventures there is amazing, and the quality is (from everyhing I've seen) universally high.   A lot of people have run Harn using RQ3, although that's probably faded over the decades.

Having pondered this for some weeks, I totally agree with you. While I feel that the Broken Tower is excellent, it feels like it might still be too much for players who don’t even have a concept of RPGs.  The Orlanthi Initiation allows a new player to start at 16 ( quicker creation without all the history), and then immediately have some very simple rules play ( some simple melee principles, orating, opposed roles etc).  Hopefully, by the end of that the newbies are interested enough to want to help Gringle.  After 30 years - Apple Lane here I come.  Let’s hope I’m correct!
