Book Preservation

I am going to be downsizing a bit, and moving some stuff out into storage.

Specifically, a ton of books and possibly games, are going to be moved to an un-climate controlled environment (a garage). Climate is coastal Mediterranean in nature, so never too cold or too (subjectively) hot, but moist much of the time.

Have any of the learned folks on this site come up with a list of Best Practices for such storage? Tight fitting boxes/crates, obviously. I'm also thinking a desiccant pack in each box.

Opinions?

Thanks Much

Sounds pretty good.  A couple of items I'd add:

  • Elevate cardboard boxes off the ground.
  • Ideally, airflow all-round (ie a wire rack or shelf).

I know it's a pain, but an annual "new dessicant packet" traditon might be good...
