P&D New Culture: Suebian

Recommended Posts

I've started working on the Suebian and the Holy Faliscan Empire of the Suebian Nation.

As indicated above, they will be loosely built based on the Holy Roman Empire which means there is both a decentralized and a centralized power (Local Nobles and the Empire), both a small Imperial Army and Regional mustered Army and a small navy (20 or 40 ships).

Based on the Era, I's still working on the basics both skills and culture, the Unique class is a bit trickier, not that it is hard to do, but more on what cultural element I want ot focus on (currently debating between Artillery or Clergy).

Below are links to my work documents and Any feedback will be appriciated.

Well I Haven't forgotten about this, but life.

I still need to write it down, but I've came up with a few ideas for this one. The Suebian unique class I've cooked up is the Imperial Musketeer.

Members of the Imperial Army, The Musketeer for an elite troop of line infantry skilled in the used of the musket. While they fight mainly on foot, they are also trained in mounted combat as well as skirmish tactics. This gives them a degree of flexibility on the battlefield not often seen in other troops.

Obvisously it's still a rough draft, but gives a general ideal of what I'm aiming for for them.

The First draft is completed:

It has the Suebian as a Culture "package", some information about the Empire and the Imperial Musketeer (on page 3). I've tried ot make it as thematic and balance as possible and any feedback and suggestion would be appreciated.

Looks good, only one minor point,  you have Swashbuckling as a choice in advanced skills when it is in fact a common skill. As I will be starting a Pirates and Dragons campaign soon I will include the Suebians as one of the culture options and give it a play test if anyone chooses it.

Good catch thanks.

I noticed it wasn't the only common skill in the lot so did a bit of reshuffling giving the Musketeer 3 common skill (like the Dragonhunter and Impovrished Noble) and gave them the option of Lore (Heraldry), Streetwise or survival instead of the 3 common skills that snuck in.

That's awesome they you are giving it a go. If someone choose them, let me know how it turn out and if you have any suggestion to improve them please feel free, it would be greatly appreciated.

No problem, if you upload your revised musketeer stats I will use that if anybody chooses the class.

No problem.

Here is the updated documemt: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WfT5_MOOb-LkgCVVlQRShk-da7B5E8H-/view?usp=sharing

Hopefully, someone will be tempted to do a Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, an Otto von Bismarck or a Maximilian von Baden analogue. 😁

Good news!

One of my players has decided to take an Imperial Musketeer as a PC (the player has given me the picture below as a visualisation of his character), joining a Shaman, an Islander Hunter, a drunken Albionic Sawbones and an Albionic noble member of the Royal Society doing science stuff.

Tomorrow is character generation and handout of props an plot hooks (of course there are fragments of a treasure map included, how could there not be!) and then they get on with trying to find out just what exactly their grandparents had got up to forty five years ago and why they all suddenly disappeared at the same time. Also, what is the truth behind the myths of a great and terrifying dragon of the Spirit realm and is it really looking for them?

Will keep you updated on how the Suebian character plays out. I have chosen not to plan and standard Pirates v. Dragons campaign but rather something using the setting as a background to the players quest (of course if they do too well then a Pirate raid and a marooning could well be on the cards).

Yours in Comradeship, Adventure, Gold and Blood

That's awesome! And the image is great, really nice visual.

And that's an interesting hook for the character, gives them a great incentive to investigate what is going on...as they might be next.
