First round of new updates is live:

  • Fixed calculation of skill categories and abilities of 20+ (both display and back-end calculation)
  • Added Movement functionality - you can now define movement when creating a culture/homeland, add creature/NPC or when editing characters. Define both the movement type and rating, i.e., Ground 8.
  • Add ability to add custom passions: Cowardice or other after character creation from the Add Passions page.
  • Other small bug fixes

Update: ability to copy text versions of characters to your clipboard for pasting in other documents by using the Copy to Text image. @Crel

Note that with all the skills, a full character is LONG. :)

Edit: also added markdown to character descriptions and thrown weapon damage to ranged attacks.

  • Lots of behind the scenes changes
  • Linking homelands, occupations and cults from view character screen
  • Added markdown to all description fields in app
  • Starting work to improve usability of homelands & cults

Is it possible to change a character's occupation, Standard of Living, or Ransom? I didn't see an option in the Edit Character screen but not sure if I missed something.

I imagine being able to change these individually after character creation makes sense because if you've got adventurer income, you might be buying a higher level of Standard of Living during Sacred Time (with a correspondingly higher Ransom coming along with it). Or, setting aside coin at a temple/guild for your own ransom.

That's doable. The values are set by starting occupation, but it would be easy to change in the edit character page.

Hi folks,

A whole bunch of updates just went live:

  • add income, ransom and standard of living to edit character,
  • add runes to rune spells,
  • show runes on rune spells in view character page
  • separated summon and dismiss elementals into separate spells to get the runes right,
  • fix thrown damage string,
  • update weapons skills & damage on character save (if stats/skills change)
  • reformat character creation screens for occupation & cult,
  • update UI on view character screen
  • update main layout to simplify things a bit - Now use Create tab for everything (will keep tweaking)

@Crel - based on your suggestions. Thanks again!

Hi, thanks again for your perseverance with the tools. As you may have seen I'm tinkering with Dwarfdom. I'm not sure if this is the best balance but I'm working on it.

The Mostal cult gives no spells or skills (I may soon move some (currently) homeland skills to cult skills) but I was hoping to use it (the Mostal cult page) to allow 'heresy' selections in Passions e.g. devotion Openhandism 60 or devotion Individualism 60 or the vanilla devotion world machine +10. There were 6 passion slots in the cult screen and I used 5 but only 3 came through after saving the cult, and there is no space to add more in modify cult. 

Also, new skills don't seem appear in the Personal Skill bonuses section so it's not possible to boost e.g Earthsense scan there by 25% or 10%

I've realised, too. that in creating templatesI really need to write down my spell, skill and passion names to avoid failing to match up and having two skills e.g Elder race lore (Dwarf) and Elder race lore (Mostali) where only one was intended. I'll try to sort these out.

Hey @Byll - I'll have a look into these items.The app was originally designed around the characters in the main rule book, and the rules differ for the new races in the Bestiary, but I should be able to make it fit -- or at least get it a lot closer to what you're looking for.

A bunch more updates just went live that mostly focus on improved performance. In short it should load faster and probably use about 80-90% less data. This is v170 of the app.

  • Lazy loading images only when they are coming on the screen (saves overall bandwidth)
  • Automated image resizing to shrink page-load sizes
  • All existing images reduced in size
  • Changed faceless icon to pentacle of runes - not sure how much I like this, but LMK what you think
  • Updated the color scheme to be a bit easier on the eyes and get a bit closer to a parchment feel. I was thinking of a wooden (boat-like) feel for the background.
  • Slightly tweaked the main navigation bar. Clicking on Cradle of Heroes now brings you to your personal screen when you're signed in.
  • Switched the order, so that open content now comes before personal in the navigation bar.

Happy to take any feedback, especially on the aesthetic changes. I'm just tweaking them now.

I don't really get the wooden boat vibe, but I do like the new color palette! You're right, it's a little less glaring, and it creates more distinction between character blocks and the background.

I like the pentacle better than the faceless image, but I also feel kind of Hrm... about it. It's cool that it's a more RuneQuest-y image, but feels a bit sorcerer-y (unsurprisingly) when most characters are not. I don't have an immediate suggestion for an alternative image.

Might be my lack of Glorantha lore. When I think of the Cradle, I picture the Robcradle scenario. 🙂

Looks like the lazy load doesn't work with older versions of Safari. Could you update to v12.1 and LMK if it works?

I've updated it so that you can add up to 6 passions.

Most Homelands or races tend to have the new skills with a base chance in their skill list. I think the issue is that you don't have things like Earthsense in Greatway. Once it's there, it should show up in the Personal Skills section (like the Troll & Elf skills do).

Yep - there is a lot of stuff like this going on, even in the main book. Some skills are Lore (XYZ), but then we have Animal Lore, Plant Lore, etc. Hard to figure out sometimes.

@Byll - I went in and did a full overhaul of how custom skills are calculated. There were a few bits of old code that do not work well with custom skills coming in from different areas. If you go into the occupations and cults you created, you can now specify which skill categories they belong to if the engine can't figure it out by itself (custom skill). Once that's done, things should go smooth. Existing characters store the homeland, occupation and cult in the character structure, though - so they are probably borked and need to be deleted and re-done.

Lots of other small changes and updates to homelands, occupations and cults - especially in the modify screens.

"Cradle of Heroes" evoked the same imagery for me. Or well, the River of Cradles, which is close enough--it's still Glorantha. Possible second of Moses in the reed cradle, which isn't a bad reference for a game about mythic stories! Where I was getting at was that the tan and blue didn't come across to me as "oh, this is a boat." It just came across as a pleasing tan & blue.

You can add it under Powers in the Edit Magic tab. A future update will add Powers to homeland, occupations and cults (for Humakti blessings and stuff too) 

Right now I'm working to automate character history generation.

I did recently update factions to include any open character, which should be good for creating GM encounters and such.

I "solved" that by making them all Lore (X), e.g. Lore (Animal).

Hi folks,

I've been doing a bit of work behind the scenes for the past few weeks, but added a new user request tonight. I bring you... bound spirits!

This update allows you to add bound spirits / magic point matrices to a character from the edit button, track their names, bound item, description, Power, Charisma, MP and the spells that they might grant.

There is a new section above equipment that shows the information and new counters in the in-play area.

Other updates include some javascript fixes on counting HP and hit location wounds and standardizing text input so there's less chance of a character having Devotion (Orlanth) and Devotion (orlanth). :)
