Humakt Gift+True Sword

It might be self balancing in a way.   Every time he hauls back and "hassan-chop!"'s the first baddie, you have figure eyes will become very wide open on team bad guy, and every single point of magic is going to go flying at him.   Also foes with Rune magic to be used "if they feel seriously threatened" should meet that criteria immediately.

That's the kind of character you spend serious resources as a party to keep upright -- both because of what he can bring to a fight, and also because you have to in order to even have a chance of getting him through it.  Normally I see it with Storm Bull worshipers confronting chaos.  Everyone knows that they are going to go berserk, and start dumping all kind of magic, mainly protective, but also Bladesharp, healing, etc. en masse, to ensure that the most effective PC stays in the fight.

A Humakt worshiper is much more able to defend himself than a Storm Bull berserker, but if he ever is slain, there's no coming back.

It's also reasonable to go with what makes game balance sense. I believe it's possible to get four doublings to post-armor damage - does it really make sense that this would be x16 the damage?

It's possible, but how often has anyone seen it done?

I assume you mean:

  • Gift of double damage
  • Gift of double damage to the head
  • Gift of double damage to Uzko
  • Iron sword

Sure, if you hit the head of an Uzko then you're on 16x damage. But that isn't going to happen very often.

It happened in a campaign I run, one of the characters had a Lottery Sword. Usually I don't use the rules for knockbacks, but I allowed them in a fight against a hungry trollkin horde, and they flew like pinball balls.

Wouldn't all of these doublings occur after armor has been penetrated? So, you'd roll your 1d8+1 or whatever then whatever gets through parries/armor/magic would be multiplied by 16.

Are some interpreting that you would account for these modifiers before rolling dice? True Greatsword with above gifts would be 4d8 x 16 = 64d8? I never even rolled that many dice playing Stormbringer! I don't even think I own that many dice.

Our Glorantha has always been pretty chill with Humakti being the Extra-Mega-Death Specialist. All the doubling actually double. With the above Gifts and an iron sword if even a point got through to the head the Uzko would suffer x16 damage for sure. Humakt has Death and it Ends Things.

Yes. Truesword is the only doubling that happens before armour, I think.

No, I don't think anyone is saying that it works that way.
