What magic would a worshipper of Wakboth wield?

Has anyone ever written up the cult of the Devil? What terrifying magics could a worshipper of the ultimate evil in Glorantha sacrifice for? Is it possible for a mortal born inside time to hero quest to the greater darkness to connect to this terrifying being, and to bring access to those powers back into time, either for personal use or as the focus of a new hero cult?

There are:

  • Two Sons of the Devil: Black Hralf of Fronela and Argin Terror of Ralios - precise powers unknown.
  • A Son of Chaos worshipped in the Umathelan City of Gargulla.
  • Cacodemon is the strongest remnant of the Devil and the Ogres believe him to be the Creator of the World (Guide p108)
  • The Eye of Wakboth beneath the Devil's Playground.

If you want the raw Wakboth then the easiest thing might be committing acts of evil to gain chaotic features.  But each new feature requires committing a worse evil than the last successful evil act.  Also the nature of the feature would be somehow relevant to the evil that was committed.

None at this point. Wakboth cannot grant his worshipers the ability to wield part of himself in Time. As long as his parts remain trapped and inaccessible. That isn't to say there aren't Chaotic would-be-heroes who are trying hard to free him or recreate his birth.

There's also whatever bits of Wakboth still exist under the Block and bubble up in the Devil's Swamp. I seem to recall that in an issue of RuneQuest Adventures Wakboth's hollowed out skeleton exists as a series of tunnels at the Block. Obviously non-canonical, but it's not a bad idea.

Also, in Snakepipe Hollow there are the Devil's Right and Left Hands, which are rumored to be Wakboth's hands. Those are at least semi-canonical, although whether they are actually part of Wakboth is probably unproven.

Wakboth is dead. You get nothing for worshipping him. But there are parts of him that still exist, and you can meet him on the heroplane (as the Red Goddess did), though you'd be unlikely to survive it. You won't meet a worshipper, but you might meet a Chaotic heroquester who has gained some of the Devils power from one of his scattered parts.

Or you could HeroQuest to wrest power from his various parts.

As long as they don't slither out of your grasp, turn into gorp that engulf and consume you, warp your limbs and mind into something else, etc

Well, that’s just one of the reasons why only a Chaotic heroquester would do it. Some Chaotic heroquesterswould consider at least one of those alternatives desirable. Messing with Wakboth isn’t for lightweights.

Getting some serious "We Are Venom"-vibes from that.

It is certainly why only Chaotic HeroQuestors succeed in the HeroQuest. If you start of non-chaotic and wrest power from Wakboth, then you end up as Chaotic.
