[RQG] Combat vs. Animals or Monsters

How do you handle special cases in fights human vs. animal/monster?

For example: The animal is missing its attack and the fighter rolls for parry with his broadsword. He reaches a special parry versus the animal, but there aren't any weapon HP's to nibble off, 'cause the animal/monster only attacks with its teeth or claws.

Do you have any house rules/special treatments for these kind of fights?

Can't find any hints in the Core Rules or the Bestiary.

Yes, I could look in MYTHRAS (with its chapter about fight-situations versus animals and such), but RQG has its own, different combat rules , so I find MYTHRAS ruleswise  not very useful .

The sword damages the location used for the attack.

So, parrying a claw with a sword means you damage the location with the claw, perhaps an arm or leg. Parrying a bite means you damage the head.

And, yes, you can cut off someone's head by parrying with a sword.

Though not your own, as a parry fumble only allows the opponents to get a hit.

It's why we've long since HRd even in RQ3 that

a) a parry vs a natural weapon attack can harm the attacking thing (ie why even dumb animals tend only to bite as a last resort, when enraged, or when they feel no risk in the attack).

b) you CAN parry with just your hands (watch any video of a knife attack - people try to do it all the time), for a default 3AP (+whatever armor is on the arm/hand).  Anything in excess of that automatically goes to that arm/hand, obviously.

RQGs rule about parrys vs even ineffective attacks forlds that in nicely.
