  1. I have both the gold book and Magic World. I was looking more on the game mechanics side, and didn't even think to look through the gold book, so that's a good jump off point. I am interested in seeing narrative approaches though.

    What's your take on enchantments? I've only glossed over the rules but I noted that it says most magic items are a hold over from an ancient time and the knowledge to produce them has now being lost.

    Now in Stormbringer (1st to 3rd ed), demons and elementals were bound to a material item in effect making it enchanted in some way (at least that's how I perceived it). Also there are a number of other fantasy rpgs that detail how a magic item can be produced given materials, time to research and power of the wizard creating the item. I'd like to allow a sorcerer this capability.

    Do you have a method yourself to create enchantments? Did you lift if from a different BRP product?

  3. I don't recall seeing this in Magic World; in Stormbringer 5th, an adventurer was given an additional amount of bronzes to allow them to buy armour. In Magic World, would an adventurer only be allowed to buy armour if his occupation provided enough coin to do so?

  4. I couldn't say what would be different in using BRP for a campaign based on ASoIF since I have haven't seen the either of the games you've mentioned. I don't think it would be hard to do really, given how the setting is currently low-magic (and is only starting to manifest since the hatching of the three dragons). You might give some consideration to how you want it to play out - are the characters hedge-knights and sell swords, or members of the great Houses playing the Game of Thrones?

  5. I've thrown my hat in for Magic World. Stormbringer 3ed is one of my favourite games, but I also liked the magic system they bolted in with Elric! and Stormbringer 5ed, but the doom and gloom atmosphere got grating for a while. I looked at Runequest but I didn't like the fact that everyone could use magic from the start. The new Magic World is a breath of fresh air.

    Can not wait for my hardcopy.

    My first post here on the forum (huzzah!). Some time ago I won a copy of the boxed 1st ed Stormbringer rpg on Ebay in very, very good condition (thin box set in good condition with no rips or tears, rulesbook with no stains or damage, all inserts accounted for including a well kept catalog from Chaosium back in the day. Unfortunately, no dice).

    Stormbringer was my first actual purchased rpg, specifically the Games Workshop released hardcover edition. As a voracious reader of the Elric books back in school, I had to have this. I played this game obsessively even after the binding fell apart.

    Anyway, this box set has a place of pride on my book shelf along with its various supplements. Every now and then I have a flick through the book, when a section of the rules caught my eye; As fun as the game is, the content of natural creature opponents was rather slim and there was a passage mentioning of being able to use Steve's Gateway Bestiary to add extra beasties.

    I've never actually seen this book so I have to ask:

    1. What was the Gateway Bestiary? A supplement for Runequest?

    2. As it doesn't seem to be in print, could I use the pdfs of "All the World's Monsters" from Chaosium's site to use as more creatures in the game instead?
