  1. In regards to using both 'Magic' and 'Sorcery', my Game setting actually tried to use 'Magic' and 'Sorcery' both. "Magic' for wizards and 'Sorcery' for priest. For my players at least, most 'Magic' users trnded to try to master a defensive and an offensive spell and be passing competent at a wide assortment of others. The Priest used Sorcery and were maybe not as flashy but their spells always worked and a priest would usually set up 'Brazier of Power' on a church alter. A wizard might have portability but the priest often had a greater depth of power to draw from.

This seems to be the common way for using both.

I wonder if anyone has tried to use both systems as part of an inclusive magic rules set for spell casters. Something like Sorcery becoming the "Rituals" part while the Magic becoming the flashy-utility ones (not every spell on Magic is a flashy one, some of them are just amazing and pretty versatile I love Wall and Seal).

In my game setting magic spells like Summon Elemental are handled like a ritual during the lapse in which the Mage is learning it. I want to expand this way to handle magic with Sorcery (i.e. the Summoning’s spells) becoming the rules system for Ritual magic.

(Nonetheless it does leaves a gap as to which system to use for Divine Magic)

BTW I love some of the sorcery spells included in GORE (Simulacrum and Clone are pretty cool!)

  2. After that - we haven't spoken in detail yet. I have a near-finished scenario "Vales of Yala", which follows on from the paragraph beginning "The scene through the portal changes..." on p89 of the Chronicles core book - although that's not the only way to get there ;) Also there's "Nightmare in the City of Dreams", which follows on from the end of the Worm Within scenario and is a mini-campaign set in and around Ambara, city of the Shalai time dragons.... a bestiary... gazetteer... the Springtide Civilizations sourcebook... adventure pack #3... lots of stuff still to discuss and pin down in detail! ;D

Anything there pique your interest? What would you like to see? :)

    Hi!

My copy has not arrived yet as I ordered it yesterday but I’m pretty anxious to read it.

The idea of a future earth encourages thinking that future earth not only on a foreign region of the modern world but a closer one. So the idea of a gazetteer really compels me. As far I have read about this setting on the web it looks like one of the core elements of the setting is the Autocracy of Sakara which “rules over half the world” and that makes me wonder what's on this half and what doesn’t. Will the gazzetter cover that non-AoS regions?

  3. Hi

I have some questions regarding the Conjure Elemental magic. According to my BRP book, this spell cost 1 pp per level (or 1 pp if you are casting the summon elemental sorcery), my question is that if this isn't too overpowered. I used to play Elric! which uses the same summoning rules of 5th edition Stormbringer, and summoning elemental usually cost at least 28 pp... But I have read some criticism in the web for this system made summoning too difficult. I never played 3rd edition Stormbringer, but I own some books (the rogue mistress campaign) and I know they used a skill called summoning (does anyone know how it worked?). I’m planning to run a High fantasy campaign and I want to know what you think of the balance issues of this spell?
