adore the original William Church map from the original edition of Stormbringer; but it, like much of the rest of that edition, was not meticulously or rigorously checked for 100% accuracy to the published fiction at that point - and let's be honest, Moorcock himself even back then was not a writer interested in the minutiae of continuity... ...iirc it wasn't until Elric! (circa 1992) that Bakshaan got moved inland...

...something I've been making jokes about, both online and in published material, for decades... see for example the ERRATIC ILMIORAN SAILOR in the Old Hrolmar monograph, 😉

From memory, I think I moved Bakshaan inland because A) in The Stealer of Souls it's described as being the richest city in the north-east, and B) because in Elric at the End of Time there's a description of Bakshaan being in the midst of (or at least at the edge of) a grassy plain. There are certainly no references to it being a major port or coastal city in Moorcock's stories that I know if to date (though I've yet to read The Citadel of Forgotten Myths, I confess, though it is on my reading pile).

And Nick, I do love your Erratic Ilmioran Sailor - a lovely in-game reference!

In a few pages Richard sketches a vivid scene and situation that is original, but very much resonates with the style and tone of the classic Elric tales.

I should add that it's not entirely original - one of the central concepts of the adventure was directly by the excellent story 'The Vampire of Croglin Grange,' which I wholeheartedly recommend if you haven't read it before.

"Curse of Chardros" from the Elric! GameMasters pack is indeed by the talented Mr Watts; it is a gem of an introductory scenario: succinct but richly imagined and full of potential for expansion or adaption to ones own game and group. In a few pages Richard sketches a vivid scene and situation that is original, but very much resonates with the style and tone of the classic Elric tales.

You're too kind, Nick! I half-dreamed of using that scenario as the start of an Elric! campaign but that was one of many things that sat on the backburner until they went cold...

I've used the scenario that came with the Elric! Gamemaster Screen ("The Curse of Chardros") more times than any other. I would love to credit the writer who came up with it, but I can't find the credits anywhere in the booklet. My guess is that it was by Richard Watts.

It was indeed one of mine - glad you've got plenty of use from it.
