  1. Just wanted to say it looks great and when I get more time I am going to really dig in. BRP and all its derived games have been some of my favorite games for the last 40 years (started playing when I was 8 so I am not “old” yet). I can’t wait to see what designers can do with this improved rules reference.

I haven't read the whole of the Dragonbane pdfs but so far I like what I am seeing. The BRP heritage is still pretty evident. You can still see it came out of an adaptation of the original Magic World.

It also makes me think what the later Elric! based Magic World could have been with consistent color artwork and a more developed mini-setting with scenarios.

Of course there are also Fria Ligan's mechanical innovations. The one I'm particularly fond of is monster attacks. Encumbrance rules are also elegant. The D&D5 like bits are nothing to write home about and the pushing rolls and initiative mechanics leave me on the fence.

I like the system quite a bit, my main gripe is opposed rolls being lowest wins vs the more realistic MOS or blackjack style. I agree with the pushing rolls being meh but the use of advantage/disadvantage to replace almost all die roll modifiers makes for a smoother playing game.

  3. As a fellow fan of Mystara I applaud your effort. What in particular are you looking to convert? Classic fantasy gives you almost all the Mystara classes and a good chunk of the basic spells, bestiaries are going to be time consuming to convert but again classic fantasy has a good selection and the classic rune quest gateway bestiary has a good selection of compatible creatures as well. BECMI monsters were mostly bags of hit points  with some flavor text abilities that were run on GM fiat rather than game mechanics so converting shouldn’t be too hard. Good luck! And let us know how it goes.

  4. Magic world is a solid medium magic games by itself, I would run a game at the drop of a hat if anyone in my area would play anything other than dnd. As others have said if you want more magic pull in stuff from runequest or one of the various magic supplements for brp.

  5. I have been playing around with skill based magic for my future home campaign where each "type" of magic has its own skill. As an example fire, water, air, magics all would have an associated skill to roll against. I'm not a fan of showy magical failures but I do have it set up so on a fumble the failure costs full MPs vs half on a normal failure.

I am also going to make divine magic work in a similar way, just have to work it out.

Foes for RQ2 has one inside the front cover.

Mmmm...Foes.  All those sweet, sweet stat blocks I didn’t have to roll up back in the day...

Nice! Ill have to snag a copy as Foes is not one of the RQ2 books I have. Thanks!

That would be a great project for our Jonstown Compendium artists:
Martin Helsdon, Dario Corallo or Simon Bray?

Absolutely, as valuable as SIZ is to the system mechanics I feel like it doesn't convey the, well, actual size of a creature very well. I always find a visual guide to be the most helpful when visualizing😉.

  8. I was wondering if anybody has seen and knows where I could find a size comparison chart for the various creatures of Glorantha. I’ve looked through the main rulebook the Glorantha source book and both vol one and two of the guide to Glorantha and have so far struck out. Thank!

  9. Im trying to figure out how to determine the cult rank as it relates to spell casting in the theist magic section. Specifically I don’t know whether they’re an initiate, acolyte, priest, or high priest. My assumption was it would be related to the devotion skill

  10. New to Mythras but old hat for BRP in general, I’m looking for guidance on how you determine a theists cult rank level. I can’t seem to find anything in the main rules book and I was just curious if there are rules on this or if it’s just something we can call setting dependent.

  11. I am going to do this so I can move my kids campaign off of DND 5e and onto Mythras, they are comfortable with the d20 mechanics so it will ease the transition. The conversion is simple for the most part (divide all % by 5and done) but I am pretty new to Mythras so I do want to say its going to be easy.
