  1. If you don't mind, I go on asking unashamedly geeky questions. ;D

Is SIZ CLASS the criterion by which you distinguish between proper mechas and superpowered beings like Hurricane Polymar (and perhaps man-sized robots like Kyashan's transformable robot-dog, Friender), so that strictly speaking there aren't man-sized mechas?

Also (restating a previous question), do the rules support the interaction between a giant robot and huge "beings" like a T-Rex, Godzilla, Chtulhu, Ultraman or Megaloman?

  2. Breast missiles do 1d10 damage each.

    Thanks! ;D

How do you handle scaling? For example, a fight between a mecha and a dinosaur or a Great Old One?

Do you also have rules for tricky borderline cases like "nested" power armors (à la Gordian Warrior)* or transformable power armors (à la Hurricane Polymar)? Is the latter case, along with other things like Hiroshi Shiba's transformations, to be to dealt with the BGB's superhero rules?

    * Maybe this is not a tricky case at all, and the three power armors are just to be treated like three different mechas?

  3. This is exactly what I wanted to mean. The difference between reason (I don't do that because it will lead me right into a lot of problems) and pure Will (someone told me not to do it, or it's not a good/honorable behavior, so I won't).

A good reason to avoid giving in the temptation should be just a bonus to the will roll. And when this good reason is not obvious, an idea roll could be made to determine whether the character gets it.

I believe this would be an excellent solution!

  4. Hi, I'm new to the forum.

It's quite funny to see how we can have different points of view about will.

    I agree!

In my humble opinion, there is not only what kind of will, but several ones.

One of them could be named "Reason". The character succeeds to reason with himself, finding good arguments to avoid giving in to temptation. "No, I must absolutely not following this very appealing appealing woman... She is a foe... She certainly wants to lead me right in a trap..." In this case, I would use Intelligence as will.

The other one is not reason but pure mind power. There is no argument anmore, just a psychic effort to avoid giving in. "No, I won't eat this delicious piece of cake. I won't. I am able to not doing it..." In this other case, I use Power.

I don't think I see a difference between the two cases: the second character declines the offer of a piece of cake because he has a reason (maybe he's on a diet, or he's diabetic), just like the first character (his reason is that the woman might be an enemy). In both cases you could distinguish the reason the character has to do or to omit to do something, from the strength of the drive (the desire to lose weight, to preserve his own health etc.) that might enable him to act rationally. So one could either entirely do without a will stat, and state that if the character realizes that doing something is irrational, he automatically avoids doing it, unless the player decides otherwise; or one could always distinguish between the character's ability to reason about his actions (Idea roll) and his ability to actually do what is better for him (Luck/Will roll).

All of the above very much IMHO! :)

  5. It is as crunchy as you want it to be. I have provided a whole set of alternate rules for combat, so that you can play it as "more crunchy than Mekton" with a 20m-per-square grid, or "rules lite" with movement expressed in areas, range expressed in short/medium/long/x-long and penalties expressed in "red tokens". My blindtest group (from Pisa) appreciated the tokens idea and found it a great semplification, and they have played a lot of d100 in their gaming life.

That's good news, I'm keen on using tokens to reduce paperwork and speed up play.

I don't own the BGB (but I own several editions of CoC and I'm going to buy the new edition of the Stormbringer/Elric! rules set, Magic World), do I need it to play Mecha?

  6. Hi everybody, I'm new to the forum.

We did not suffer from these cuts in Italy (except for Yamato and, which arrived from the Stats as Starblazers and not from Japan), as these shows were mostly broadcast by minor tv networks which did not care much about this subject. Later versions were cut when our Big Brother Network started airing them, but most animes were circulating in uncut versions until the end of the 80s.

I think you forgot to write "Gatchaman" (which was broadcasted by the Big Brother initially, if I remember correctly) and "Robotech" after the "and", right? And perhaps also Golion/Voltron?

I'm interested in this new supplement. How crunchy will it be? Mekton was too complex for me in the 'nineties, and now I have a strong aversion for rules/math-heavy rpgs.

I wonder if Mecha + Dragon Lines would allow me to run a Giant Robot (I'm thinking of the awesome OAV series from the 'nineties) game, without drowning in the crunch.

    Ciao!
