  1. Just an update here - now that I've started running GPC for a bunch of newbies I decided to make some Battlecards for the first battle (Salisbury, 480, Book of Uther). Am I allowed to upload the pdfs here? I basically randomly generated half a dozen enemies from the Book of Armies to decide who the enemies are, with a couple of battle-specific opportunities (Raise the Standard for after Aurelious dies, Lead the Charge for the following turn if that's successful), and a few more generic opportunities cribbed from the in-game cards.

I'm slowly going to be doing cards for all of the units out of Book of Armies, though it may take a while.

  2. Here's a thing I don't think has been addressed elsewhere:

In Design Journal #6: Combat (27 Jan 2023), Michael writes that "...because we assume knights have trained at least a bit with every weapon, all Weapon Skills default to DEX/2..." but I'm not seeing this backed up anywhere in the rules.

Have I just missed it (not really spent much time with the Solo or Campaign books yet), or was it just not included? Is it something that's going to show up in the Knight's Handbook when that comes out?

(To help my poor newbies along I've included the DEX/2 rule in my house rules, but clarification would be very much appreciated here.)

  3. I've had a look through the other posts and can't see if this has been answered anywhere else, so I thought I'd start a new thread.

Will there be anything like a Battlecards deck, or additional cards made available through the site? Also, is there a blank template for making our own cards? I love the ones that come with the Starter Set, but as I've just started running the GPC for a group of Pendragon newbies (starting with the Uther expansion) I suspect I may need more than the ones the Starter Set has to offer.

Yes, I could make my own, but they won't be anywhere as pretty as the official ones. 🙂

Was wondering where you had got to. I see I need not have wondered. You obviously were just waiting for the right lead-in for a slam dunk, eh?

    Cheers

I've mostly been running Paladin and working on some ideas for Jonstown Compendium... Hopefully there shall be more news in the New Year. 😊

  5. Okay, I'm a bit confused. It would appear there are two different versions of the Rune Spell 'Crack', one as described in the RQG rulebook, pg 324 (Non-Stackable, can't affect spirit-occupied items) and one as described in the RQG Bestiary, pg 94 (Stackable, can affect spirit-occupied items).

Is the Bestiary version an upgrade that's specific to Thed worshippers only, or does the newer version supplant the older version all round?

We are working on releasing all of Wyrms Footnotes 1-14 as individual PDFs soon, as in within the next month. We have 4 issues left to finish.

They will probably also be available as POD.

This is excellent news, especially the POD part. It would make filling out the collection easier and cheaper. 😁

As for Tales of the Reaching Moon, stay tuned.

I am... unclear whether I think this is a Good Thing, or not.  The Hero Wars, and players comparing their own PCs to the Really Big Guns, already elicits grumbling about how the metaplot looks a lot like being sidekicks to the GMPC's Destiny.  I cannot but think a published Argrathsaga would make that grumbling worse.

I'm pretty much the same myself.

Would it be nice to have a big campaign that you can sink the players into for several months a la Pendragon? Sure. It would definitely help give the players a strong taste of what the Hero Wars and Glorantha (esp. Dragon Pass) is about, and would be handy for newcomer GM's to get a feel for running a RQ game, but...

As you say, it could also set up a situation where players (and potentially GMs) are trying to outshine the big names of the Hero Wars and steal the thunder (no pun intended).

At the same time, I *love* the ambiguity surrounding the stories of Argrath as presented in King of Sartar, and can see myself possibly being a little disappointed by anything that attempts to offer a definitive canonical answer to the question of 'who is Argrath?'

There's a part of me that would love to see something like this, but another, larger part that would want it be focused around something less established than Argrath's rise to power and subsequent deification (maybe).

It might unfortunately very well be absorbed in the RQ:RiG so-called "RuneQuest Campaign" aka "Grand Argrath Campaign" project which should cover the time between 1602 & 1655 (Fall of the Red Moon).

Wait, is there really going to be a Grand Argrath Campaign for RQG similar to the Pendragon one, or is this just rumour and speculation at this time?

On the whole, these are collectors' items rather than serious sources nowadays...

    Thanks for the feedback.

It's the collecting aspect I'm working on, mainly due to nostalgia - I had quite a few of the old ToTRM issues back in the '90s, and a few Wyrm's Footnotes (plus Footprints) but they went walkabout after giving them to a friend for safekeeping, along with my original RQ2 collection. I've managed to replace most of the RQ2 stuff so now I'm moving on to the 'zines and thought I'd try and get the full set, as it were.

  10. Howdy

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a hold of the RQ 'zines, such as Tales of the Reaching Moon (UK) or Wyrm's Footnotes? I know Footnotes issue 15 is available from Chaosium, but I'm hoping to get legitimate copies of the older issues of both if they're available. Ebay's not being very helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

Good for you Bill. In my experience most of the so-called barbarians are way more civilised than those city-dwelling stiffs that like to flaunt their superiority complex. 😁

Hmmmmm.  "A certain barbarian" is seeming awfully well-socialized and law-abiding and... well... civilized these days.

Welcome to BRPCentral, in any case!   👍

    Thanks for the welcome. 😁

I experience cats as being very rules-lawyer-y, with rules like  "I'ma sleep here now"  &  "oooo!  critical NPC/map/whatever... excellent for kneading/shredding!"  &  "now we are playing MY game, and MY game is run all over the house hunting imaginary pixies & causing mayhem"

Ah, this is because you never met Tribble. He just wanted to be part of the group and play with the shiny dice. And occasionally knock everything off the table for no apparent reason. 😋

There is a story worth telling there, I'm sure!?! As we say in french, you have either told us too much or not enough... 😇

Maybe one day I'll tell the tale. For now I'll just add that whenever I've run RQ since then there's always been that slight possibility the players would run into a Minotaur Storm Khan by the name of Tribble. 😊

  14. Howdy folks!

A certain barbarian suggested I should stick my head 'round the door and introduce myself, so here I am. I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself. Some of what I'm about to tell you is classified under the Official Secrets Act and should not be shared with anyone outside this plane of existence.

I've been a role-player for over thirty years now, starting with RQ Classic back in the early-mid eighties (just after Games Workshop got the licence to print a UK edition) and since then I've logged a fair few miles in various gaming systems including D&D (BECMI, AD&D, 3.5 and 5e), Tunnels and Trolls, Dragon Warriors, Marvel Super Heroes, Golden Heroes, Judge Dredd, Paranoia, Traveller (in various guises), almost every shade of World of Darkness, Pendragon, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Star Trek (FASA), RIFTS, GURPS, 13th Age, L5R, Serenity and a number of homegrown systems of varying quality - and that's just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I'm happy as DM or player, though I prefer to DM if I'm being entirely honest. I once ran a game of RQIII for my cat - he played a Minotaur.

My playing style (both as DM and player) tends to be character and story first, dice and mechanics second, and I tend to come down hard on rules lawyers and munchkins when they put themselves in my line of sight. Oh, and I'm definitely proud to be a grognard.

They look mighty tasty don't they? Where are you playing the classic? I am currently playing in the far northeast of Sartar in the Division Hills, Torkani Tribal lands in 1613 classic RQ using RQ G rules.

I ran Classic in Dragon Pass and Prax, with a brief detour via Ravenloft (don't ask). I've got a seriously strong affection for the original gaming area presented in the RQ Classic rules and supplements, so they usually act as the base of operations for any Gloranthan game I run. That said, if/when I run RQG I'm tempted to move the action somewhere else for a change of pace - maybe Kralorela, for some wyrmish fun.

Now that g33k has confused me, I don't know whether to welcome you or welcome you back.

I was here on the forum very briefly back in 2016 when I was prepping a RQ Classic game. As I just said to g33k in another post, hopefully I'll be back for longer this time, especially with all the gorgeous new RQG goodies I'm reading about. 😁

Welcome!  Uhhh... I see that's "welcome back."  (Did your prior game get off the ground?  How'd it go / how's it going?)

I don't know if you've followed this specific news, but "GoG" is now "GaGoG" -- Gods and Goddesses of Glorantha, 100 Cults in long-form write-up -- and is planned as a TWO VOLUME set...

Thanks for the welcome - it's good to be back. Hopefully I'll stay longer than two posts this time. 😁 The game I was starting up back in '16 ran for about six months, and went down well enough that two of the players keep asking for a return to RQ at some point. Right now I'm prepping a Paladin game to start on Monday, but will probably run a RQG game at some point in the not too distant future.

I did have a quick spin through the GaGoG thread and ended up falling own a Glorantha rabbit hole (again). All I can say is given the quality and sheer awesome that is the current RQG/Pendragon/Paladin line I'm definitely going to be throwing a lot of my spare cash in Chaosium's direction for the next few years.
